"I truly am sorry that I failed."

You didn't fail!!! You just didn't pick the right surgery! Do not blame yourself.

I revised because I didn't look at my situation logically. When I started I had about 270 pounds to lose and I was under some cracked out assumption that I could accomplish that with a lap band. Pffft... Anyway, reality kicked me in the ass and I realized that I had a hardcore weight problem and needed hardcore surgery to help me. I need the "big guns".

This will be my third revision on May 3rd.

Do not give up!!

i'm sorry you're in so much pain. i hope that you get relief soon.

please don't apologize for potentially offending anyone. you owe no one anything, except yourself and it sounds like you're taking the right steps to get healthy.

Weight loss surgery is a tool. Some tools do the job. Some don't.  Kind of like medications. What might work for me won't work for you. Depends on YOUR body and YOUR chemistry and YOUR cir****tances.  You only fail if you give up trying. And you have not given up.

I had the band. Loved it til I got pregnant with my youngest 8 months after having it put in. After his birth, I started having horrible complications...constant PBing, reflux, dehydration, hospitalizations, etc.  When my baby was almost 2 I finally had enough and revised to the DS. With my DS I lost the same amount of weight in 2 months that it took me 3 + yrs to lose with the band, and within a year of my DS revision I had lost 150 lbs and was finally at goal. I do know that my band was a ***** to remove, had horrible scar tissue, it had slipped...etc. My band  surgeon and my gastro both assured me that this was a band failure not a patient failure.

However, when push comes to shove, it doesn't really matter why I revised. Revision was my choice to make, my money to spend, and the only person who was qualified to give an opinion on it was my doctor. Everyone else could either deal with it or get the hell out of my way.

So the next time someone is giving you a hard time about revision surgery,  just tell them they are only qualified to open their mouth if they have a medical degree and have your patient chart in their hands.

Best of luck to you.

Hello: First of all I am sorry for all of your health problems and hope that you can resolve at least some of them to the point where you feel like you are not a failure.  You are not one.  Your particular surgery simply did not work out for you.  I think by your posting that you certainly have been trying to get back on track.  Also, when and if you have your knee replacements done perhaps some sort of physical therapy program afterwards (I liked the water exercises myslef because it was much easier on my joints etc.) anyhow, this may improve your metabolism enough to help get you back on track also.  Take it one day at a time.
If you need to have a revision, then do so.  Have you researched all of your options yet? Have you spoken with a qualified surgeon?  Gotten maybe another opinion on all of your possible options? There are so many out there.  Just don't give up.  Also, I understand totally what it is like to be afraid of failing and most afraid of gaining any weight back.  I have 15# I am fighting like heck to get off.  I look at myself with disgust many mornings, see my floppy apron and batwings and feel inferior to others.  This is what happens if you allow yourself to let it get you down.  Please don't.  I realize it and my stubborness usually wins and I just keep on plugging along.  You can too.  I will say a prayer that things work out for you.  If you have true friends, they will support you no matter what happens.  Same goes for family.  They hopefully love you unconditionally fat or not failed surgery or not.  Keep us all updated and post as often as you need too.  The site has so many others who can help, suggest, and support.  You can do this.  Whatever you decide.  Take care.  Mary
