First Consult with Surgeon!

 Still kinda new here... Hi everyone! I have my first meeting with the Surgeon on Thursday.   It's a three hour appointment where I meet with the surgeon, the dietician, and the program coordinator. I'm trying to compile a list of questions to bring into to them, any suggestions? 

Have you decided on a surgery or are you still deciding?

 Im still trying to decide between the sleeve and the Gastric Bypass. I know the Gastric Bypass has been around longer and they know more about it, so I may lean toward that. However, I do like the less chance of dumping syndrome for the sleeve. 

I don't know how much research you have done in regards to those two surgeries, but maybe starting offby  go over to the forums specifically for them and pose this question. That way you will get a response specifically from the pre and post ops. My best advice. Trust your gut when you go in for the intial consultation. As they are getting to know you you get to know them. Before it is over you will have worked with everyone in the office. So getting to know them and confident in them is very important.  Also if you are not aware in my opinion YOUTUBE is a good source as well. Congrats on making the first step and best of luck.  

Decide on which surgery you want to have THEN decide on whcih surgeon you want to use.  You cannot expect a surgeon to educate you on procedures that they don't do (although they should, they don't.)

Have you researched all four WLS options?  Have you decided which surgery you want?

 I have researched all of the options.  When I first decided to have WLS I was leaning toward the gastric banding. After doing research, I decided that was not the option for me.  I do like the sleeve but  I do not like how lacks the years in the field that the Gastric Bypass has.  I suppose I will need to research those two a wee bit further.  I was able to meet the surgeon at orientation and he seems really compitant and really caring about each patient. 

I'm confused. Isn't RNY the gastric bypass?

 oops... I meant the VBG instead of RNY... ahhh total brain fart >_<

Obviously you have some more homework to do since the RnY IS the gastric bypass.  I'm wondering what you think "all of the options" even are.

I didn't pick a nice surgeon who seemed competant and caring.  Anybody can seem competant and caring.  I picked a surgeon with an EXCELLENT complication rate and an excellent success rate, and an extremely low mortality rate.

 You are confused about surgery types, but it is confusing when you are new.  I think you have RNY mixed up with VSG.  RNY is gastric bypass and has been around since 1966.  The VSG or sleeve is the newer surgery with less long term statistics.
