I had my surgery on 3-22...and I have been been bleeding since about a week before surgery. I went to my gyn on Friday and she is doing some test..I know I am going to have to get my hormones straightened out. She suggested depo shots. I took depo for years and it made me gain weight. I gained like 50 lbs the first few months...I am just afraid it will do that to me again but it would be so convenient. I wanted to know what some of you did for birth control or to control hormones after surgery. I do know I don't want an IUD...I already told her no to that...I'm just at a loss here as to what to do to stop this bleeding. I can't take it much longer.

You could perhaps take a different type of hormone??  Maybe a small dose of a regular b/c pill?

I was given an oral medication specifically to stop bleeding.   I don't remember now what it was but just a couple of doses did the trick.

Nuvaring is an option, as far as birth control goes, instead of Depo.  ( I also gained a LOT on Depo and will never go back to it.)  I really did like Nuvaring but had to stop because of repeated infections (I'm allergic to the latex that the ring is made from).

I used the Ortho-Evra patch for a while and liked it.  I had no side effects from it.  The only reason I stopped using the patch is because I decided to go with something more long term and got the Mirena IUD.  I had to change the patch weekly....and the IUD every 5 years.  I'm not good at remember things sooooo the IUD it is!

I'll just offer this~
I had an 3 yr IUD for 8 years. Never had one minutes problem with it working over the 3 yrs. It was a "copper 7". When my husband and I decided it was time to have kids ( I was 38 then) I went to my GYN and she removed it. It was slightly imbedded into my uterine wall, but never bothered me and didn't hurt being removed, she just mentioned it and told me IF I didn't get pregnant in a year, to return to see her.
I returned in 2 weeks...PREGNANT. My GYN was in shock and awe. I'm not telling you to leave an IUD in longer than the prescribed time, but I am proof that they work, and I got pregnant within 2 weeks once removed. My son, now 19, loves that story...now. I have that lucky Copper7 in my jewelry box to this day!
