Lab Guru's opinions? Help please?
Just got my labs back and there are a few issues that are a concern...
Mainly my liver enzyemes and some other stuff....Any opinions or suggestions? My PCP doesn't seem to concerned, but I use A LOT of tylenol! (Vitamin use is very compliant!)
All are Serum labs...
Glucose: 102 H
BUN: 19 H
Creat: 1.12 H
...
AST: 47 H *
ALT: 92 H *
ALK PHOS: 149 H *
All these are HIGHER than last labs 5 months ago, even though I use less prescription meds, except for tylenol.
IRON:127
TIBC: 187 L
Transferrin Cal: 68 H
Ferritin: 249
t3 Uptake: 1.41
25-OH Vit D TOT. 128 H
....
MCV 98.8 H
MCH 33.5 H
MPV 10.9 H
CA+ Total: 10.1
PTH Intact: 13 (Borderline Low)
Ironized CA+ 5.4
Vitamin B12: 1521
Preablbumin: 34.5
I put mainly those results that were HIGH or Abnormal as well as some others for comparison.
If any more lab values are needed let me know...All others are considered within "Normal range".
My main concern is Liver function ? Should I push my PCP more to get a referral to a liver specialist?
Right now I am taking Milk Thistle and SAM-e to try and help with liver health because I know I am overdoing the tylenol (around 3900 mg per day for over 4 months). But need it for the pain (Using Vicodin, Fioricet and Tramadol daily).
Warmly,
Jackie

If you take more than 4000 mg of tylenol a day, you should cut back. I was worried when I was on 3900 a day, because if your liver is any bit stressed it probably can tolerate LESS tylenol than the average liver.
The levels that are high (b12 and d) and the pth being low are really awesome. \
wish I could help more

Thanks on the B12 info, I knew that one was "good" and always run a high B12 level so I am fortunate for a 10 month out post RNY. (I do 1 shot a month and 1 sublingual weekly).
I had no idea what the PTH levels should be (High or Low!) I am still learning!
I just wanted to add those in there, since I know a lot of the Lab ladies often ask what the B12 and PTH is (they are training us well!) LOL!
Warmly,
Jackie

Well I worry about my liver! and I think it is important to be watchful.... you either should push for a consult with a specialist, or at least push for more labs in two or three months to see if the levels are rising significantly .... if so, you should have no issue goign to a specialist.
After my recent surgery, doc had me on a prescribed dose of pain killers that included 3900 mg tylenol... he honestly didn't expect I would NEED that much, but alas, my surgery ended up far more painful than the average (and it's a painful surgery)
I worry a lot about my poor liver..... that thing is a workhorse and we can't have it foundering!

The high liver enzymes are due to your weight loss. It is VERY common to see it after surgery so don't sweat it too much.

do you have a vit D 25 (not 1,25)?
and the calcium is scary high. how much of what are you taking? have you had kidney stones yet?
Are you adding up the tyelnol in the Vicodin, then extra tylenol?
True,, our liver enzymes do move up, but since yours are getting HIGHER, there is a question. if it helping the pain THAT much, I agree with finding a pain specialist to balance all that without frying your liver. We're onlly issued one of those.
