Anyone ever try to make Protein Jello?

I say some protein jello in a diet magazine I get, kinda pricey though.  Has anyone ever tried to make protein jello by adding unflavored protein powder to sugar free jello mix?  Thanks Jenny

I tried and it was terrible. It works well in pudding though

I heard about making the pudding.  I was just curious about the jello because for 2 weeks before and 2 weeks after I can only have clear liquid diet and pudding id not on the list but jello is.

Thanks, Jenny

Protein powders are milk based and milk and jello just don't go well together for me.  Pudding is made with milk and the protein powder is not bad mixed in pudding. As soon as you can have pudding, it is a good way to get your protein in.

I made it a few times.  It's better if you use vanilla protein powder with cherry or orange jello.  It does set up ok but i****ery too.

You can make protein jello out of the liquid protein shots that they sell. I just bought some in Walmart today with that very intention.

The only problem with the liquid shots is that their protein is primarily collagenic, and that type of protein is not readily absorbed by anyone, especially if you have any intestinal bypassing (RNY or DS).

Current info (where's Andrea U. when we need her citations??) is that we get MAYBE 25-30% of the protein in those shots.  So for me, it simply wasn't worth the money to buy them.

I made it early out. Check out the unjury site - they have a ratio of protein to jello that actually worked (and would probably work if you used a different brand). I too felt that flavored protein (chocolate with cherry jello, or vanilla with peach) was better than unflavored with anything.

But again, it WILL work better and taste better when you get to have pudding!

I make it with jay robb unflavored egg white protein which my NUT said I could use. I enjoy it as a little dessert most nights :)

Funny you shoukld ask...

I just tried this recipe tonight so I can't really speak to it yet. It's "setting" in the fridge as I type, but I am anxious to try it out.

Lemon “Mousse"

1 packet Sugar Free Lemon Jello
2 cups low- or no-fat cottage cheese
1 serving of vanilla protein powder
1 can unsweetened crushed pineapple

Blend cottage cheese in a blender until it is smoothe.  Add protein powder.

While it blends, boil one cup of water and, if your fruit is canned, drain and run under water to rinse off excess sugars. Divide the fruit between 4 containers.

When water boils add it to jello and stir to dissolve.

Slowly add the jello to cottage cheese/protein powder mixture and let the blender run for about a minute.

Pour the cottage cheese mixture evenly between the 4 containers. Chill for 4 or more hours.

Alternative: For a treat , use strawberry jello and add 2/3 cups of strawberries to the cottage cheese mixture while blending and pour over fresh strawberries.
