I have lost a consider amount of hair. I had hair to my waist but i had it cut in layers just abouve my shoulders. I am just almost 6 months out and my hairs is falling out by the hand fulls. It is really thin . I have not colored it since right before my surgery in Nov. I have about 3 inches of Gray and it is driving me crazy. I am wondering if it is safe to color my hair. I am thinking that coloring it will make it look thicker plus get rid of the gray.Any advice is appreciated.

I remember my first 8 months after gastric bypass surgery...My thick hair was falling out by the hand fulls also.  I was scared I was going bald.  My hair dresser said it would all grow back in and she suggested taking biotin to help my hair.  Well she was right, it's thick again but shinier now.  I colored my hair 3 months after surgery and it covered the gray and looked great.  Go color your hair and don't worry about going bald either lol....it will all work out in the long run and you'll love your new body with your new hair.  Enjoy!   Congrats on your wls and enjoy the new YOU!

You are far enough out to color your hair. It is the first month after that you want to wait, making sure all those good drugs they used are totally out of your system. Biotin is a good product however, after much reading ( couple yrs ago) it is of no great help after the hair has started to fall out. People think it is but sometimes our mental health lets us draw pictures of how great it is working. It will not harm to take it, just don't expect vast amounts of renewel to happen from the pil, it will happen naturally.
Best of luck and color that hair!

We're about the same time frame out.

I've been religious about keeping up with my color and cuts my hairdresser has been amazingly supportive as my hair thins out.  (I still freak in the shower as clumps come out grrrrrr)  I'm hoping soon we'll both be coming out the other end of the loss portion of this.

The only thing I will say is that get it colored when you don't have to worry about any important meetings or events.  With less hair to attach to the dye gets stuck on my skin.  Since I'm a redhead I don't wa**** for 1-2 days after a dye job (to let it set) I make sure to plan it at the slowest points of my week.  Which for me is Tuesdays.
