The person who told you that has a very unhealthy relationship with food.  Giving food that much power must really be miserable.  They sound like they deserve the deprivation they may or may not be enforcing on themselves.  They have no right or power to enforce that kind of asinine BS on anyone else.

I consider protein bars to be deprivation.

Have you tried the Atkins Peanut Caramel Cluster Bars? My gosh, they taste like a payday candy bar! Nutrition: 8g protein, 12g carbs, 5g fiber, 1g sugar, 4g sugar alcohol (toot~toot!), 9g fat (oh no, here come the fat police) and 140 calories.

I'm with you in this.....I HATE the food police. Just wait until they're back to wanting to eat again; they'll be asking questions like "what should I eat when all I really want to do is snarf down some chocolate covered oreos"!

My motto: all things in moderation; and eat what works for YOU, not the lady in your surgeon's office who lost a bazillion pounds and has kept it off for half your lifetime.

I don't see any reason to let it bother you - if you have decided it's OK than it is OK.  what people thought you shouldn't have this? point them out and let us have at them!

once upon a time I had a group to talk about Binge Eating Disorder, and later one about Clean Eating.

PM me if you are interested in either of these.

Well, I'm already a WLS bad girl because I'm a DS'er and according to some here on these boards, a depraved glutton, but here's my take on it.    If the scale is going down (if you still have weight to lose) or is staying the same (if you're happy with where you're at) then why sweat it?     It's a protein forward snack, and trust me, I've eaten FAR worse.     I tend to watch my carbs during the week and eat what I want on the weekends.     I also sometimes tend to NO****ch my carbs during the week, and just don't fret about it anymore, so long as my pants continue to fit the same way.    I have a very dysfunctional relationship with the scale - my parents committed some terrible emotional abuse in regard to that from childhood through adolescence, so I barely even weigh myself these days - once a month at the most.    I wear a size 2 or 4.    Trust me, if I gain a few pounds, I notice a difference immediately, and cut back on the carbs as needed.   It's worked for me for four years now.    Don't let some of the holier than thous on this board get you down.    You do what's right for YOU.

Sometimes I stay away from the boards for long periods of time as well. I get so tired of the food police. I eat what I'm supposed to eat 99% of the time. I review my food choices in detail with my nutritionist and she raves about how well I'm doing. I've spent far too many years of my life feeling guilty and bad about food. I refuse to do it anymore. The way I eat now is night and day different from how I ate 9 months ago. So, if I want to have a treat every now and then...I do, and I don't feel the slightest bit guilty about it. We're just upfront about what we're eating. They're probably sneaking it and just being quiet about it.

"for a moment I was treated as if I had eaten a bunch of candy"

I hope you aren't saying that, if you had eaten some candy, that the way you were treated would be okay. One thing I can't stand about this board is that people are so judgmental about what others eat and act like anyone who eats X (and whatever X is will vary) is doomed to failure and sabotaging their weight loss and it's okay to be pretty rotten to them. Because none of that is true.

Now personally, I don't think the Zone Perfect bars are a great choice because I don't think they have enough protein. So I wouldn't make them a staple of my diet. OTOH the protein bar I do eat regularly has way too much sugar for someone with RnY and wouldn't be a good choice for them. There is no one good choice that works for everyone and acting like there is just reflects badly on the person doing the judging.

Oh and I do eat candy. Not every day and not a lot but I have worked out a system where I eat very healthy food 80% of the time and can indulge in a certain amount of treats and still maintain my weight. Not everyone has to completely cut out candy from their diet to be successful.

Odd Man Out Here..."prejudice" is not the right word and, if you don't mind reconsidering, should be saved for something more serious than your choice of protein bars.

If you had been attacked for something YOU ARE...tall, short, a woman, Jewish, gay, Chinese, that kind of thing...then you are the victim of prejudice.

In this case, people just jumped your ass when it was really not their job to do so.

Who Also likes Zone Bars

In any group of a hundred people, there are probably 2 or 3 sociopaths.  In a group of a thousand, more like 20-30.  They function very well in "affinity groups," where people have things in common and tend to trust strangers.  I am NOT saying not to trust anyone.  I AM saying that there are probably two dozen sociopaths hanging out here and looking for victims.  Most are NOT serial killers.
