Very discouraged with my family doctor

I had the RNY procedure done on April 4th so it will be 6 weeks this Monday!! Feeling good...eating apx. 3.5 ounces and feeling full...I have lost 37 lbs and am so proud of myself. I go to see my surgeon on May 23rd for a weigh in and more vitamins,etc...but since I came off of all my meds (blood pressure, etc) I see my PCP every 2 wks...

I go to see her yesterday and she says "37 lbs?...I thought you would have lost more in 6 weeks??" .... I said "What? really? I thought I was doing really good?" and she says "I don't know, I guess talk to the surgeon and see what he says"...

I am still crying about this....Am I losing slow? should I cut back to 2oz.? I started out at 277 and I am 240 this morning...I am so sad?  I have spent my whole adult life fat and she made me feel like such a failure?

I am sorry.   I recommend that you find a PCP that is bariatric friendly.  Not all Dr's are compassionate to overweight people and their journeys!!!!!    Remember that you are losing the weight for you and only you!!  Blessings to you!

Sounds like your PCP doesn't know anything about WLS and Expectations of weight loss. Your actually doing very well! Don't let her get you down, Keep up with your program, and maybe you can educate your PCP along the way.

Agreed with Ann. This journey is about YOU. you do what you need to feel good, confident and not terrified that someone is going to belittle the hard work you've been through. No matter what, if you're happy and losing, you're doing everything right. It's a different journey for all of us.

Maybe see if your surgeon has any suggestions for different PCP's in your area...its not right to feel that way ever at the doctor...
I hope you're feeling better.

Shrug it off as an ignorant doctor.

37 lbs in 6 weeks is good.  Break it down that is 6 lbs per WEEK.  Ever do that before and know that you can maintain the loss?

Man, what does the woman expect?  You to hop off the table 100 pounds lighter?

You're doing great.  Don't sweat it.

She probably has not had many bariatric patients.  But if she is willing to learn and otherwise you like her give her a chance.
