I didn't pass the stress test but opted for the catheterization.  It was well worth it to hear the cardiologist tell me "Your heart is beautiful"!

I had to have a cath too after a 'failed' stress test. Turns out I had big boobs (still have them BTW). Sometimes the big boobs cause shadows on the scans that mimic ischemic tissue. Better safe than sorry. You don't want to find out during surgery that it was something more. Hopefully you can get it done fast, everything will be fine and you can get your WLS surgery.

My cardiologist was a ******* After putting me through all that **** he still didn't give me clearance. He didn't think WLS was a good option for anyone. I think he figured it would put him out of business. Got my clearance from one of his colleagues, then switched cardios after surgery.

Good luck, keep us posted on how this turns out.

They usually just give an EKG pre-op, and if you pass that, you're good to go ..  Did they give you an actual treadmill (or table) stress test, and if so, why?

I don't know if they skewer stress-test results too, but our big bods (i.e. fat on the chest) can cause erroneous "bad" readings on an EKG, pre-op,  mimicking the damage caused by a "silent" heart attack .  I had that problem, too .

I don't know why I had to get the stress test.  It was my PCP's PA that ordered it.  I've never had a funky EKG or fainting or anything that would warrant a stress test.  They did an EKG in my dr's office the day I went trying to get clearance.  I asked why did I have to get a stress test when I've never had any indications of heart problems and the PA said it's standard procedure whenever someone gets surgery.  I told him I've had several prior surgeries and this was the first time anyone said I had to get one.  No answer from him on that one.  When I called my surgeon's office to let them know about this roadbloc, the nurse told me the same thing about busty women getting false positives.

I'm driving myself nuts trying to figure out what's going to happen when I see the cardiologist tomorrow.   In any case, hopefully I'll get things done soon.  Having the surgery done on the 24th meant I could take two weeks off from work to recovery but with vacations already scheduled, if I can have it done the 31, I'll have only 5 days before I have to go back.

Like I said earlier, if I had ever had any indication of problems this would be a non issue, but I'm very frustrated and just looking to get it off my chest.  Maybe cath's are no big deal, but the thought of having a tube snaking through my veins and poking around my heart is very disconcerting.

Thanks for the kind words.  It really does help to hear from others who've had the same experience and I appreciate people being understanding and wanting to help, and not trying to make me feel like an asshole for being disappointed.

It doesn't really matter at this point to wonder why you had to have the test.  Just be glad you did.  It might be the one thing that saves your life.

Yes, you did, obesity.  Obesity alone puts you at higher risk for heart disease. Many surgeons are ordering cardiac and other screenings before any surgery where you will undergo general anesthesia.
When you go to the cardiologist, they may determine that your heart is fine.  I would rather know, than not know.  A little inconvenience is better than losing your life because you didn't get screened.

I had an EKG and failed the test days before surgery.. They sent me to cardiologist had to have the stress test, nuclear stress test and cleared it with no issues.. I was just like you stressed and all upset but it turned out to be nothing. Just be glad that you got it done prior to surgery to make sure everything was ok.

Yes I also failed my stress test. I am probably older than you(59), I saw my cardiologist on Mon. and I am having a cardiac catheterizing on Fri.  As my cardiologist said "you cannot live with out your heart so it is better to be safe than sorry."  I saw my surgeon today, i am scheduled for surgery on 7.11.2011, if I have to have a stent put in I won't be able to have surgery till Nov.

I hope everything goes well for you and you have your surgery.

I'm sorry I know how frustrating delays are.  I had my surgery 6/7/11.  My cardiac cath was perfect.  The doctor said busty women usually have a false positive.  Good luck with everything
