My question to you is why you chose the RnY?  Did you know there are four types of WLS available (I'm not counting the "tongue patch")?  Have you researched all four types?

Did you know that there are some really good reasons to preserve your pyloric valve?  Are you aware of the regain rate for people who get the RnY and the physiological reasons why that regain happens?

I am interested in your story.  How old you are, how much weight you need to lose.  What kinds of things you have tried in the past.  What co-morbids you have.  What you expect your RnY to do for you.  Etc...

I have not fully chosen RNY I am looking into all 3 my surgeon does not reccommend the DSwitch. I just want to be able to do things thinner people are able to do.

I dont even know what a pyloric valve is. But I am going to look it up after this message.

I am a 28 year old mother and wife of three children and a dog. I weighed in this morning and I am 265. I have a list as long as I am tall with the thing I have tried. From starvation to cabbage to the lemonade fast, slim fast, quicktrim, jillian michaels, and exercise, fasting water fasting,,,,,I could go on forever.

I do have borderline high bloop presure, sleep apnea and gerd reflux. I am not on any meds because I am not that bad off but I want to eliminate it all together before it becomes a problem.

I really dont know what to expect  honestly.

I don't know you.  And believe me I have nothing invested in giving you advice, other than the fact that I am so grateful for the people who talked to me when I was first starting out that I promised to "pay it forward."

You want to preserve your pyloric valve.  It is what regulates what moves from your stomach to your intestine.  Without one they have found that you are very likely to have terrible side effects and weight re-gain.

I know you are like most of us and you aren't interested in going through all this just to have it all come back (with friends).

The DS has the best statistics BY FAR for keeping the weight off.  And that is what matters the most.

You do have to take vitamins.  You do have to eat high protein low carb.  You do have to get labs and be a self-advocate.  But with the RnY you also have to take vitamins.  You have to eat high protein low carb.  And you have to get labs.

The thing is you pick your surgery type first and then you pick your surgeon.  If your surgeon does not DO the DS then he isn't going to recommend it for you.

You are young.  But some day you may need to take NSAIDs (like advil).  With the RnY you can't.  With the RnY your surgery basically stops working after about 3 years and you are back to being ON YOUR OWN for eating a very low calorie diet and exercising a lot.  The DS works forever.  The amoung of malabsorption with the DS does lessen, but never goes away completely.

You do not want the lap-band so we won't even go there.  A horrible horrible choice for anyone.

Here's a couple of easy to read links.

www.lenoxhillhospital.org/press_releases.aspx

www.dssurgery.com/procedures/compare-surgical-procedures.php

Remember.  Pick your surgery type first.  You don't go to a Ford dealer and expect them to advise you to buy a Lexus.

Read all the surgery forums here on OH not just the Main Forum.  Read the Revision forum and see what surgery types are failing people.

Ask tons of questions.  Take your time.  You are young.  You are going to be living with this decision for a VERY long time.

PM me any time.

Decide what surgery YOU need, not what your surgeon decides for you. Be aware of ALL the surgeries and their pros & cons, visit ALL the surgery boards and READ them. Also go and read the regrets and revisions forums.

My original surgeon chose the RNY for me but while waiting for my husband's approval, even tho mine was already approved, they held off scheduling me, THANK GOODNESS, I kept reading and what I read convinced me to go with a surgery he did not want to do so I changed surgeons. I was willing to travel almost halfway cross country to get the surgery *I* wanted. Thankfully a local surgeon was willing to do the surgery I wanted.

But this is an open forum and telling people to not read or respond is like pouring gas over a fire...you will get burned. And while posting articles may be of interest to you, before doing that do a search and see if they have been posted before. Like others have said, posting about you is far more interesting. And always credit your posts, otherwise you are violating copy write and can be held liable for that. Free speech is one thing, posting other's articles without credit is theft.

Your surgeon doesn't recommend the DS because he doesn't do it. Go look up a real DS surgeon on www.dsfacts.com and get a second or even third opinion, a less BIASED opinion at that.

If you honestly didn't care, you wouldn't have posted this, right? Right.

Sorry your life is so empty.

I agree with you 1000%. Actually I read this post first and then went to your three other posts of earlier today. I found merit in your posts, but what do I know? I only had my WLS over 4 years ago!!!!!

Keep on posting!

It's a public forum honeybuns. Time for you to grow some skin and quit whining.

It would also be helpful if you would quit posting bull**** but that's your prerogative.

Guess what? People are going to say what they think. I could NOT care less whether you care about that.

Please go take a grammar class.
