On week 5 for me I was aloud to start having soft meats that were not blended. Like fish, crab or shrimp.

Altho fast food is kinda out. I have had pinto's and cheese from taco bell. Also, cajun pintos from bojangles, and last but not least Wendy's chili. These are rare, but there are occasions when fast food is what the family wants, and then you just have to be careful and choose wisely.

At 5 weeks out, I would still be very careful. If your like me, you cant eat very much anyway.

It's important for your surgery to work properly for you to get to eating solid foods.

One bit of advice I give to a lot of newbies is to add ONE new food into your meals each day.... if it doesn't go over so well, then put it on the back burner for a couple of weeks to a month. If you add three foods simultaneiously, then you don't know which one to skip!

Also, and this is important.... you should make CERTAIN you are eating properly.... if you get a lot of foods stuck, then eat a portion half the size of the portion that is making you get stuck....so if a spoonful gets you stuck, eat a bite that is half a spoonful, and make sure you are chewing VERY well..... one trick that works is to recite the alphabet while you chew, one chew per letter, don't swallow before Z. A lot of folks think they're chewing well, but it turns out that they aren't chewing past J or K or L......chew to Z. Also there are some foods that you would THINK would work well, like eggs or chicken, but those are two of hte most highly complained about foods. Make any eggs double-moist, and same for chicken. Some people find that some meats don't work for them, but don't give up on solid dense protein, just experiment.

And yeah, as another person said, come over to the RNY forum, there is a lot of surgery-specific advice over there.

Post on the RNY forum. People there are very knowledgeable and nice. I usually order fries and eat 3-4. Maybe order the dollar salad without dressing, a griled chicken wrap and eat only the inside, decaf coffee with two milk and splenda, unsweetened ice tea and add splenda, soup, junior burger and eat the inside. Eat a tiny bit and throw everyhing out. When you are at a party take a few bites then just push food around on the plate if you care about your host noticing that you are not eating. It's not so bad.

At five weeks I couldn't handle raw fruits or veggies at all, so the stuff I eat when I go out would not help you.
I would suggest (as the others said) packing snacks such as cheese sticks, nuts (if you can handle them) protein bars and shakes.
My favorite dinner out is at Red Lobster, on the kid's menu they have crab legs and you can get them with broccoli for a healthy protein heavy meal. Outback also has the chicken on the barbie on the kids menu you can get with the seasonal veggies. at 10 months out I can olnly eat half of this meal, so be prepared to take some home.
I'm now into salads and wraps (double meat). Stick with the protein and veggies, keep carbs lower on your reintroduction list especially breads and pastas. Try things, but as others said, do it one thing at a time.

good luck
