VSG 8 days ago, 15 lbs lost, Is this normal???
You should experience your first stall in Week 3. Don't worry about the weight loss, it's fine.
Be glad. Everyone loses at a different rate and it mostly has to do with your "before" eating habits and the diet you are on now. You should have an overall slow-down in Month 6. Again, don't worry. Follow your surgeon's directions.

This is totally normal. It's a huge drop due to fluid loss. This happens because your body is using up emergency stores of energy called glycogen, and that causes a big release of stored fluid. Remember that a gallon of water weighs about 8 pounds. So you can see how quickly the numbers can build up.
This will stop. Remember, this glycogen is for EMERGENCY use, you know, like trying to escape an attacking wooly mammoth. Your body will replenish the glycogen stores, and in so doing will hold onto the fluid needed to make that happen. So you will have your first "stall" and the numbers might even OH HORRORS go up a little. Totally normal.
Keep doing what you are doing and do not believe the scale. Remember, it shows raw numbers. Drink two quarts of water, get on the scale without peeing and you are likely to be 2-4 pounds heavier. That's how it works. It does not tell you about losing fat or gaining health.
The scale is a liar. The quicker you can divorce yourself from the scale and use OTHER means of measuring progress, the better.

In a previous post, you said "I assist in Surgery everyday ..." - therefore, I am going to assume you are not mopping the floors in the OR, but are actually in the medical field, which is why I am going to hold you to a higher standard.
WTF?? This is a totally ignorant question for someone with even a MODICUM of medical knowledge, even adequate pre-bariatric surgery preparation, or just plain common sense, and I'm wondering why you posted it. Did you not learn what to expect before surgery? You don't know about the usual 10 lbs that ANYONE who goes on a strict diet loses due to loss of water associated with using up glycogen stores? (2 lbs of glycogen are stored in muscle tissue, which require 8 lbs of water to keep it in solution - when you use up the glycogen to keep your blood sugar levels up, the water is lost too - and then is regained when your body replenishes the glycogen a couple of weeks later = stall).
"Will it continue like this?" Are you kidding me?
What is the purpose of this post?

Wow, Diana .. I guess my first thoughts about your judgemental attitude were correct. I dont feel its an ignorant question at all.. I was told to expect leaving the hospital gaining 7-15 lbs. I have a friend who had the same surgery, shes a month out and only lost 15 lbs so far. I also have another friend who lost 80 lbs in 3 months, was all tha****er as well? I never said I had a PHD, I do have a degree but it not in weight loss dear. Hold me to whatever standard you seem fit, Im not worried, youre not paying my mortgage. I lost 40 lbs prior to surgery so I expected a much slower rate of loss in only 8 days. If you dont like the post dont read em, that simple. Common sense right? Whats your deal? Did you husband leave you for someone who act's more like a lady?
Sweetie, I dont mop floors, nor do I go around being a rude Witch, Iam a Surgical Technologist / Assistant and a good one at that. My question was simply in regards to "typical results" Thanks for wasting your time though, appreciate it! Back to your bat cave!!
