Joe Nadglowski:

Let me ask the first question to get the ball rolling. What should you do if you are concerned about your weight, but are not sure what to do next?

7:00
Dr. Stegemann:  Have a conversation with your primary care physician. The best way to get control of your health and weight is to be proactive and involved in your own care. The "Your Weight Matters" toolkit is a great place to start – it provides a list of questions for you to ask your doctor about weight and your health, as well as list of questions you can expect your doctor to ask you – so that you can be prepared. Access the toolkit here:http://letstalkobesity.com/CampaignToolkitforQA.pdf (Adobe Reader required the access the link)

Comment From Andrea  I have high blood pressure and diabetes this runs in my family, can this surgery really help me as my mom and dad died from complication of these diseases?
7:01
Dr. Stegemann:  Absolutely. Significant weight loss improves many of the medical problems that come along with carrying extra weight.
7:01
Dr. Stegemann:  Improving your weight improves your health.
7:02
Comment From jennifer  Which option is the safest?
7:02
Dr. Stegemann:  All weight loss operations carry a certain amount of risk.
7:03
Dr. Stegemann:  Each of the different operations that are performed have different risks. The surgeon you choose will discuss those risks with you.
7:03
Dr. Stegemann:  However, weight loss surgery in general has never been safer. Most weight loss operations' risk level is similar to having your gall bladder removed.
7:04
Joe Nadglowski:  Since the last question was about options, what are the options for surgery?
