Absolutelyofftopic -- Casey Anthony not guilty - Discuss
I have not followed all the testimony but a friend of mine has and she is stunned. I'm guessing the defense was able to prove reasonable doubt is all. Not that she was innocent but there was a possiblity.

I didn't closely follow the case because it was just too sad. Logic leads to the conclusion that Casey killed and disposed of her daughter, but the evidence was not "hard" enough. The jurors took beyond a reasonable doubt way beyond reason.

I am shocked...but I have to say..the system works. There was NO evidence and you can't put someone to death because you "think" she did it. She got away with murder...but the system works.

Good point made. This time the system worked the way it was designed. I too think she killed that poor baby either through planned intent or through carelessness. But there was no physcial evidence and everybody kept their mouth shut which usually never happens. Usually somebody gives it up.
Look at it this way, if indeed she is innocent, she spent 3 years in jail for a crime she didn't commit. But we know that isn't the case so she really got 3 years for murder.

She was found guilty of 4 counts of lying to authorities ---- a total of about 4 years of jail time is coming to her at sentencing.
She has served 3 of those 4 years ---- who knows if they will dismiss the rest or keep her there for another year or so --- she did commit that crime and her attorney admitted it for her during the trial.

No, it's a misdemeanor so it's a max of 1 year per count, if it's charged as a felony it can carry up to 5-8 years depending on the cir****tances though. There is a very good chance that she will simply be released on her sentencing date, as she has already served 3 years. Often jail time for misdemeanors can be served concurrently, though I'm sure in this case she'll be sentenced consecutively. Unless she gets the max on each count and gets no deduction for anything other than straight time served (sometimes time served before trial counts as 2 for 1, not sure about the law in Florida though) or early release for good behaviour she would serve up to a year more, but more likely she'll serve just a few more months or be released at sentencing.
