3 wks out, what exercises are good
Hi!
I am 3 wks out from surgery and I am looking for advice as to what kind of exercise I can do as of 4 weeks, which is when I was told I can start exercising. I have been walking due to back to school shopping, but found that I was quite tired.
please let me know some of things you did as you started exercising and what did or did not work.
Also, do we have any hockey/ringette players here? I used to play competitive ringette and would like to get back into it either this fall or next fall. What did you do to get back into playing shape? I don't care which position I play, but I was a goaltender for 25 years.
Many thanks,
Kirsten

I started back at the gym around the 4 week mark, my dr said i could do anything but lift more then 25 lbs...he said if something hurts then dont do it....easy enough lol...but i did the treadmill and eliptical the machines the only thing i noticed that hurt (not a lot) was the situp machine so i just do them at home
Have you ever tried yoga? Get A book at your library and check it out, nothing too hard at first. Doing yoga puts you in good shape and feelings for your whole life, I am 75 and can vouch for this, even tho I have gained enough weight to curtail my practise at the present time ....I am doing chair yoga excersizetil after my surgery!! ...Sam
Usually walking is what doctors recommend in the beginning. They recommend at least 30 minutes a day, but it doesnt have to be all at once. Walk for 10 minutes in the morning, 10 in the afternoon and ten around/after dinner time. As you get further out, you will build up more stamina and will be able to increase your time.
I also like working with an exercise band. They arent expensive and you can adjust the tension as you build strength. This will also help keep your skin toned as you lose weight. Pilates also helps with strenth, toning and stamina and is easy on the joints.
Hope this helps!

I was cleared to go to the gym at 2 weeks out. I rode the stationary bike for 30 min. a couple of time a week and started running on the treadmill at 1 month out.
