When I saw that billboard, my knee jerk reaction was there's no way I would let them put my kid on that billboard.

Really! What WERE those parents thinking? Sadly, they were probably PAID for this.

There are actually pictures of kids on the billboards? That's the parents caving to money if you ask me. I would never humiliate my child like that even though I am a big supporter of the fighting obesity. Not just kids, adults too.

Americans overall eat like crap. Too much junk, too much food in general. Any restuarant you go into these days, sit down or fast food, the portions are just crazy.  Seems like everything I order now becomes 2 or 3 other meals in addition to the one I ate. Does anyone really need a 16oz steak, a1lb burger or 2lbs of french fries??

What happened to the Presidential Fitness Test? They had those when I was a kid. You had to be fit and healthy - not thin or skinny. Too much couch time not enought coach time.

The humiliation and ridicule that that billboard is going to incite will cause untold pain and bullying toward the very children it is intended to help.

It just breaks your heart to think about this.  I know that it isn't the best thing for a child to be obese.  But, the LAST thing you want when you are a kid is for anyone to point out that you are different than other people.  To me, it just yells at the kids, "LOOK AT YOU!!!!  YOU ARE NOT EVEN CLOSE TO PERFECT!!!!!!  AND, EVERYONE KNOWS IT!!!"

The thought of kids being weighed in front of their peers is just staggering.  There is no difference in weighing kids in a health class or gym class in front of everyone than to line everyone at the 1st Church of Whoever and weigh us all and let everyone know the numbers.  I am fairly self-confident, but if someone forced me to weigh in front of all my friends and enemys, I would run and hide.

I got my sleeve on March 14, 2011.  I love it so far!

This happened to me in first grade.  I never forgot it.

Oh, girl.  That just makes the nice part of me want to cry... and it makes the more human side of me want to beat the heck out of the fools that did that to you.

What kind of idiot decides that this is a GOOD thing????????

I no longer carry pain associated with that memory, but it did stay with me for a very long time.  When the nurse said "one oh oh" I felt like I had done something wrong.

I think a more productive way to handle this would be for physicians to speak directly to the parents when they bring their kids in for a checkup rather than this shaming tactic.

Does anyone else find it ironic that everyone seems so willing to blame genetics, medical causes, and everything except poor diet and a lack of exercise when it comes to obese kids, but for adults whose WLS has failed everyone is quick to wag the diet and exercise finger in their face?

Why are the children deserving of compassion for bodies that refuse to metabolize normally, but adults are not?

If diet and exercise does not work for some people, it DOES NOT WORK. Why berate anyone for it?
