Why so militant?
I am scheduled for surgery the 31st. Am having RNY because my insurance will pay for it or the Lap Band and I want something more than the lapband. What is another board? I too would like somewhere a bit more positive. I am sure that the people who post these comments are sincere but I do not want negativity nor insults. Just good support and good tips.
There is a board for each surgery, filled with supportinve and knowledgeable people.
THere is a reux-n-y forum that i normally post on, we would love to see you there.
My insurance as well only covered certain surgeries. I chose RNY over lapband becasue of the bands high failure rate and revision rate.
I will be glad to answer in questions about my journey so far which has been short i am 5.5 weeks post op.

Moscato_momma, you have a BMI of 57. Have you fully researched all your options? Given your BMI, the DS is more likely to take you---and KEEP you---where you want to be.
If you haven't already, PLEASE visit both the DS board and the Revision board. You might decide to delay your WLS and pursue the DS instead.

You've gotten a LOT of positive, supportive input here, but I see it wasn't enough for you. Just stop coming to this main board and go here instead: http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/rny/.
Or try this: Go to www.google.com . In the little box at the top of the window, type in the words "gastric bypass forum." There will be lots of results for you to check out.
I'm sure you will find at least one that will give you whatever it is you consider to be "support."
And with that, I will no longer expend a micron of energy to make your experience here more navigable and understandable, since I see exactly how much you appreciate the hour and a half or so I've invested in answering your posts in the past week.

I'm not militant about my surgery choice...I *AM* militant about the dissemination of false or incomplete information about any of the surgeries.
So when someome posts that their doctor says that DS a few years post-op, all patients are all dying and their teeth are falling out, but that the LapBand is just as effective and way safer, I'm calling Bull**** on that play.
Have whatever surgery you decide--based on accurate information--is best for you.
And as far as the "my surgery is better than yours" comment...there is ONE surgery that is the most effective...and one that is least effective. That is about the NUMBERS, not just personal opinions and what your best friend's Uncle's girlfriend had done. If someone says they are going to have the least effective surgery because they are just sure that they are going to be the exception...go for it. But if they come to the same conclusion based on someone's telling them that the least effective surgery is somehow "the best surgery," then they should be prepared for comments.
I agree with you on the correct information needing to be posted.
Truth is though there are horror stories and amazing success stories with each surgery.
I myself almost had Lapband until some very real and accurate information was presented to me, and i found the RNY to be the best option available to me.
What is the "best surgery for me" and my scenario is not the best for everyone. So many factors to consider, health conditions, insurance coverage, cost. the possibility or impossibility of self pay.
I will support anyone in any decision that they make the best that i can.
I just think we should be more focused on supporting newbie and pre-ops than possibly bickering amongst ourselves. Present the information in an supportive manner. And realize that sometimes, the experience people have, is a horror story, their journey has not been a happy one and that is what they have to put out there cause tha tis what they have lived. THis should aslo be tempered with , the frequency in which that particular scenario happens.
I am sure some DS'ers do lose their teeth, but are they taking the vitamins and things they are suppose dto are they 110 years old? what are the outlying factors?
Just as i'm sure some rny'er have regain.........there again what are the factors that are not being stated?
ok, i'm off my soap box...........
