Many WLS post-ops with malabsorption require iron infusions because most of the iron is absorbed in the duodenum and this is largely bypassed in our population.

A specialist that often coordinates this is called a hematologist.

Hi, I am 7 years post op and have been taking a prescription for iron for the last almost 4 years. Lucky for me my numbers aren't low enough where I would need to take shots, but I try to eat as much iron enriched foods as I can. Good luck!

It takes this long for your iron to go from very good, to good, to almost good, to fairly bad, to bad.

I get infusions.

My iron went low right after surgery. Tried several iron supplements that caused constipation. I seem to be doing well on proferrin. Iron levels are better now.
