The first few days post op from most wt loss surgeries are rough for most post ops. Most surgeons give you a script for pain meds for the first month or two.  I also got a script for Prilosec for the first 90 days post op. Nausea is an issue most post ops experiences.  The nausea will likely subside in coming days. But, some post ops may experience some long range nausea to certain things. To this day, I still get nausea from the odor of cooking bacon.  Also be aware that Gerd (acid reflux) will likely be an issue at times for sleeve patients. So you may have to use acid reducing OTC or scripts pretty often daily.  These are facts, often discussed at the support meetings I attend monthly, where RNY and sleeve patients are the primary attendees.  Good luck.  DAVE

I have a very small tolerance for pain medications. I have been searching for natural remedies of some sort . I do know nausea is normal I dipo have it with every surgery this time around it is more severe then my other 3. Every and anything us triggering it, I am on zofran for the nausea and liquid codeine. I have never been able to tolerate crushed pills so that is another challenge, everything must be liquid or I have to take the crushed pills in sessions at a time, yes the support meetings are great, I attends them once a month for 4 years. Unfortunate you don't see too many vets there. It's usually filled with new was patients. I do think OH is a much better support. Thanks for your advice shana

David,I appreciate your answers to the questions asked so very much.  What are some advice tips to those of us that are pre-op, (scheduled for Tuesday) for faster healing and getting over the nausea and other post op nightmares?
Wrinkled was not one of the things I wanted to be when I got older.

Each post op is a little different. Some patients have nausea, fatigue, trouble drinking fluids, etc. and others may or may not have one issue or none.  For faster healing, drink protein shakes. I know the plastic surgeon that speaks at our support groups has a policy for all of his patients. He has them drink at least 100g of protein shakes daily for a month before plastic surgery. This helps the healing process a lot. Try to avoid citrus type drinks for the first 3 months or so, as they can be irritating.  Taking Nexium or Prilosec daily reduces irritation from the small amount of stomach acid you'll have post op, and this helps reduce the nausea too.  Some patients  have "no post op nightmares". Complications from any surgery can occur. I'd highly recommend post op groups monthly, or maybe 2 or 3 if you feel the need.  The first 60-90 days tend to be the hardest for post ops. BUT, there are others, like me, who had hardly any issues the first 3 months post op.  At 4 months I had severe diarrhea, but that was a result of taking CIPRO to prevent infection from a bad cut that needed several stitches.  One major hurdle tends to be hydration--drink your water. Whether you need to adjust temp of water, add Crystal Lite or diluted fruit juice, etc. drink you water or you'll end up back in the hospital.  My only issue concerning nausea was and still is the odor of someone cooking bacon.  Best tips, follow protocol, don't rush into foods not ok'd by your surgeon, begin exercising, get a minimum of 75g protein daily, take supplements (dry D3 and sublingual B12 especially, besides 200% RDA inb a multi), drink plenty of water...It's all a learning curve.
