Like the others say - a bit soon to worry.

But when you do get on the edge of being too low, what I did was just to relax things a bit. I started to put butter on my veggies, didn't scrape sauces off the meat when eating out, had cake with my Starbucks coffee,  had a second latte, happily drank another glass of wine and so on.

But IMO it is sensible to go below where you want to maintain; many people bounce back up a bit.

Highest 290, Banded - 248   Lowest 139 (too thin!). Comfort zone 155-165.

Happily banded since May 2006.  Regain of 28lbs 2013-14.  ALL GONE!

But some has returned! Up to 175, argh! Off we go again,

According to the National Institute of Health's BMI calculator, you are still overweight. At 5'1" and 134 pounds you have a BMI of 25.3.

You won't be of normal weight until you are at 24.9 or below and you won't be considered underweight until you are less than 18.5.

You've still got quite a ways before you need to begin to worry.

Relax.

I'm basing my information on what my surgeon recommendations.  Also, there are exceptions to every rule.  I'm nothing but excess skin and bones.  Unfortunately,  I have a huge bone structure.  I had to get my fathers' football players structure. If I lose the weight to get to 24.9, I would be anorexic. That's according to all my doctors.

you may not look all that great dropping lower than 134 - but that weight does not make you anorexic.

i'm not 5ft & my dr's prefer me to be around 103, but i'm OK with 110-115.   you might want to consider the bounce back factor some, so i would go as low as you can (if it were me).

I have read studies saying that the lowest BMI is normally reached at 24 months.  The bounceback weight gain kicked in for me at 30 months.  Then I gained about a pound a week for twelve weeks. I lost the deflated boobs, the chicken wings on my back, the sunken in face, the size 0 and any worries about being too skinny.

Bounceback weight gain supposedly happens when the intestines recover from the surgery and begin absorbing food again.  There are hairlike structures called villi that keep food in contact with the intestines long enough for it to be absorbed.  After surgery there are not enough villi left and the food passes through the small intestine without being absorbed.

The body is smart enough to know that it is being starved and eventually develops more of the villi needed to get the job of absorbing food back to working again.  The lower your weight is before the bounceback starts, the better your chances of maintaining your goal weight after things go back to normal.  It is considered normal to regain about 20 pounds between year two and three.  My surgeon advises being at 20 pounds below his goal by month 18.

Mary Catherine, thank you. I'm into the 2 month of year three.  And am 16 lbs lower than my surgeons goal. So, I guess I'm close to being on target in that area.

I felt like a bag of excess skin at 24 months. By 36 months everything had filled out again.  There are lots of too skinny weight loss people at two years out.  It is extremely rare to find someone too skinny after the third year.  Even people who are very strict about diet and exercise want to lose ten pounds after year three.

Have you had body composition testing done?  Your BMI is still overweight, but what is your body fat percentage?  I'm 5'3", and my goal is 124lbs despite being pretty muscular. If I maintain my current lean mass, I will have a BMI of 22.5 and a body fat percentage of 22% or so at that weight.
