WHEN ARE PEOPLE GOING TO REALIZE "DIETS" DON'T WORK!!!!
I have so many friends who had surgery when I did.....they started off great! Lost all the weight they wanted to...but then after about 5 years they fall back into their old habits....now they are back where they started.....and feel worse then they did about themselves than they did before they had WLS. It breaks my heart!
That is why I try so hard to tell people...this is not magic...you have to work at it....and you have to continue "Forever" with the healthy eating and exercise habits.
Diets are a Game! A game that I refuse to play!!! I did the yoyo diet thing until I was 40 and had WLS and learned I have to do what works for me....
It is funny.....all of a sudden this light came on telling me...even though I always really knew it...It's all about calories in and calories worked off.....But when the food I put in my mouth is healthy.....and I continue to exercise.....It makes it so much easier!
Also, perhaps WLS individuals sometimes don't realize they need counciling when it comes to food and how we relate to it. I grew up feeling that food was "Love" it was the only love I got. I did get counciling for it. Food no longer means "Love" to me! Food is not love it is fuel for my body!
I do love good food....and I eat it! But I alter recipes to make them healthy.....I NEVER DIET! It is what got me weigh 400 lbs.
The funny thing is.....if you do Weigh****chers or whatever....it works if you treat it like a lifestyle change.....not do what I did....go on and go off and go back to old habits!
It's all about doing whatever you decide to do.......forever!!!

I honestly believe that many go on "diets" because they never embrace or accept WLS as the beginning of a lifestyle change - how many hundreds of times do we see people 2 or 3 months out asking about dumping, RH or including simple carbs in their meal plans?
That's all well and good for the first 2 or 3 years because we all know you can pretty much eat what you want in the beginning and it really doesn't matter too much but it will come back and bite you in the ass with weight gain once the honeymoon and effortless maintenance period stops. So what do they do? They "diet" - they go on protein shake diets or whatever they think will result in them losing the excess pounds at 4lbs a week. Calling it a "pouch test", "resetting your pouch" or "back on track" doesn't make it any less of a fad diet!!! It is very hard to get out of the "fat" mindset and as we all know, WLS only rearranges your digestive system, not your head!
Successful vets are people that changed their lifestyles - they eat well most of the time, they exercise, they take their vits - yes, there may be some exceptions that eat cupcakes and french fries every day and maintain their weightloss, but I'd say they are in a very SMALL minority!

It's just a game.
I wish that stupid "5 Day Pouch Test" would be recognized for the crash diet that it is and people would stop using it.
And I'm constantly bemused by people posting on here: has anyone tried that new XYZ diet? Um, that **** didn't work pre-op, why would you think it's a good idea post-op?
I'm not talking about going to WW for the camraderie and accountability. I'm talking about things like the HCG diet, Sensa, Full-of-it Bars, the 17 Day Diet and other crazy schemes that promise to get the wieght off you without any effort or sacrifice on your part.
It's not just a game, it's a crazy game.

If any "diet" works for me, it would be the Volumetrics diet. I still eat what I want, but if I have a large glass of water or fruit smoothie before I eat lunch or dinner, I do notice I eat less.
I agree with you though.....diets don't work.
If any "diet" worked, America wouldn't have this so-called "epidemic" and no one would need to go under the knife and cut over half their stomach off.
If God intended our stomachs to be the size of a golf ball, He would have made us that way.
I understand that some people do need the extra help these surgeries provide. It's just that if diets truly worked, none of us would have the need for that.
"Diets" are just another money-making scam

Do you see the glass as half empty or half full? I say, what difference does it make--I paid for a full glass,so either way I am getting jipped!!!
