WHEN ARE PEOPLE GOING TO REALIZE "DIETS" DON'T WORK!!!!
What is scary to me is how easy it is to go right back to the old habits. I had surgery 16 months ago. That is also when I stopped eating refined carbs and large portions (obviously). Even though it has been 16 months I know that all it would take for me to go back is to decide at Thanksgiving that a roll wouldn't hurt me, after all it's a holiday. And before you know it, it's a holiday every day. Sixteen months of healthy eating, which you would think would have become a habit by now, out the window for a roll. Because once I open the door to my addiction it comes running in full force and I don't know when, or if, I will ever beat it again. And I don't want to find out.
So, I don't call it a diet or a lifestyle change or anything else. It is just how I choose to eat today. No matter what day it is, Thanksgiving, Easter or my birthday. Because diets are just things to go on and then go off.

Amen!!! I feel the same way....I went to Italy and my friend said, "If you are ever going to eat pizza this is the place" I said, "There are more ways for me to enjoy Italy than eating pizza!"
Sometimes loved ones try to get you to eat things you don't eat. I think it is because they don't understand the addictive relationship we have with it!

Diets do work for some people. They work for the people who just eat a bit too much and weight 15-20 lbs more than they should.
They absolutely have horrible results for anyone obese or SMO. We get to that point by having long term hormonal and metabolic issues that are not resolved by diet.
Not to even mention binge or stress eating.
This is why only 2% of people are able to keep excess weight off through diet and exercise alone.
