Major Complications from Gastric bypass almost 3 years out and I am only 22
wow im so sorry to hear you are going thru this at such a young age. i advice pushing the issue on the surgeon who u had surgery with. he is the one responsible for your troubles after bypass. Also try and seek a psychotherapist u might need to talk to someone, it is very scary.
Reason why i didnt choose bypass surgery was because i have a friend who is very ill now after her stomach closing after bypass surgery. she was 230 pounds and her surgeon said she didnt qualify for bypass and she intentionally gained 30 pounds so he ended up doing the bypass and after many operation she is now 92 pounds and at one point she almost die :(...
i know how it is when your parents push you to do something my mom always try and push wls on me and i said no. I would have people in the street stop me and tell me i should get wls like them but i always said no and i tried to lose the weight on my own. i was 363 pouns at age 22 and with hard work lost 50 then decided to get the lap band.. after i did alot alot alot of reseach. i didnt let my surgeon or anyone affect my decision to get lap band, of course my surgeon prefer i get bypass is more expensive but i told him if u dont do lap band then i will go and get another surgeon who will..
again i am so sorry, try and take care of yourself.

I lived under their roof at the time and they all kept telling me that if I did not have the surgery I was going to die before age 20. My parents were the ones who had to sign and do all the pre op consultations because in my state you cant legally have gastric bypass untill your 21 and I was only 19 years old. They kept telling me that I was a "special" case that needed to be dealt with urgently. Now If I am not fixed I am going to die at 22.
RNY on 04/16/12
since your parents wanted you to have this and your so young have them put you back on there insurence with the new laws you can carrie your kids till there 26 and grand kids to my hubby has my girls on his and there not even his kids and if he wanted to could put my grand kids on this may help you to get the help your seeking. I havnt had wls yet but make sure you have a good case before going after the doctor because after that you will be red flaged in the doctor world. appendix happens to all ages, and gallbladder is normal after wls. I know your scared and i hope you get the help your looking for loretta.
Ulcers--do you have dark red in your stool? Can't keep anything down without vomiting. To me these would be issues where I'd go to the local ER. Again, I don't fully understand why this surgeon refuses to admit you to the hospital to find a resolution. I fail to understand why altering the size of your pouch will make you stop vomiting. You could be well vomited and have various tests to eliminate some reasons for your issues, and hopefull FIND what is actually happening. Gallbladder surgery is not a complication to RNY either. What's you surgeon recommend to get you blood levels to normal limits? Lapband surgery is not without issues too, and many of these surgeries are either reversed or modified to a rny or sleeve. NOT BEING ABLE TO EAT WITHOUT VOMITING is a forevery issue from RNY. Are you on any blood pressure drugs to deal with that issue? DAVE

I call bull**** You say that your dr tells you that you are going to die, but then you say he says that you are fine. You state that you are malnourished and anemic, but then you state that your "vitamin test" - came back fine. WTF are you talking about? If you haven't kept any food or water down for 3 years, you would already be dead. Really, if you hadn't kept any food or water down for a week - you would be admitted to any ER where they would treat you for these issues (you don't need insurance in the ER). If you can't get these issues taken care of due to lack of insurance, how did you just find out you may have cancer and HBP?
What, exactly, do you want to sue your doctor for? Many WLS patients have their gallbladders removed, and WLS has nothing to do with your appendix. Since you keep asking whether or not you have a case, I would say that based upon what I see here -- no. I'm not seeing that there was a negligence on the part of the surgeon.
IDK, maybe I'm missing something. . .

My soul is completely intact, thanks. Nothing wrong with me... although I DID just have brain surgery 3 months ago... I'm only 30 -- I could die from that....do you think I should sue my bariatric surgeon? Get back to me ASAP.
I simply stated that her story didn't make any sense. What's wrong with that?

Melinda A.: Um, you're missing a soul! What the heck is wrong with you?She says she's applied for disability---that'll get her on Medicaid or Medicare. Medicaid goes into effect immediately, and will give her the help to get well---IF she'll be pro-active enough to seek it out from a qualified surgeon.
Hey, I actually agree w/Melinda. People keep posting suggesting and giving you sympathy, and you accept the sympathy and refusing any advice...but continually asking 'please give me advice ASAP!'
I was thinking the same thing about not being able to keep down even liquids, too...you had surgery 3 yrs ago, babe, if you REALLY couldn't keep ANYTHING down you would have been dead a LONG time ago. You do have a flare for the dramatic though....
IMHO, if your issues are half as bad as you are making them out to be, then you need to put your BIG GIRL PANTS ON and start acting like an adult. You are 22 years old. If your problems are THAT bad and THREE WHOLE surgeons 'won't touch you', then I guess it would be time to contact some other freaking surgeons. Make some phone calls, send some letters or emails. You need to be matter-of-fact about your issues NOT overexerted (which you are OBVIOUSLY doing), the surgeons office thinking you're a nutcase will NOT help your situation.
At this point, playing the blame game (oh, my parents--oh, my surgeon...blah,blah,blah) should not be on your to-do list. If you are SO AFRAID that you are going to DIE, then WTH are you worried about a lawsuit?!? You should be focused on correcting your health issues.
Now, you know what to do so stop with the games and get it done. No whining allowed. If you are really in a 'fight for you life', then don't stop calling or sending emails or letters until you are better.
P.S.-- the others were correct too...most of the things that have happened to you are common complications of the surgery, you were just woefully undereducated or didn't pay attention when they let you know what the complications were. However, the appendix thing could have happened to anyone and has nothing to do with your surgery, so you shouldn't throw that in...it makes you sound a little paranoid. Also, you keep 'complaining' that you are 110 lbs., well how tall are you? I'm 5'3", and at 110 I would still be able to lose weight and be within my normal weight range.
