I dont want to be that far away from my baby for to long but i also dont want to be rushed out i know after my gallbladder surgery they like rushed me out the door with in a few hours i was not ready at all end up at er. And in my doctors paper work it says the send a nurse to your house for the first week i wonder if they will do this for me with me living 2 hours away hmmmmm.

Most stay........about 2 or 3 nights........with no problems. I was not urinating so I had to stay 2 more days. I live about an hour from the hospital and a nurse was sent from my area.

I spent two nights in the hospital and needed every minute of it. Some surgeons let their patients leave after just one night in the hospital.

Best to you and your upcoming surgery.

I can't answer (I had an out-patient Realize Band and was only in the surgery center for about 4 hours).

Please make sure you also find out what your 'lifting restriction' is --- I don't know how old your baby is- but you will likely not be able to lift anything heavier than 10 pounds for many weeks.

You will need a plan for taking care of yourself and your family for many weeks post op.

Good luck!

I was also home within 2 days -- my best advice would be to get up and walk around as soon as you can... as painful as it is at first, the more you can get moving the faster you will heal.... and be on your way to picking up the little one again!

I had my RNY surgery Thursday morning and was discharged Saturday afternoon.  I had a few problems, but my main focus was to walk, walk, walk.  First time up I walked to the bathroom.  Second time up I walked into the hallway.  Then I just started going a little further and further each time.  I walked every two hours whether I felt like it or not.  The only exception was that I counted taking a shower as a walk - it tired me out more than I expected!

Sometimes I had to take pain medication first, but I walked on all the even hours (8am, 10, etc.).  I had my gallbladder out at the same time, had some gas pain.  Walking helps to relieve the gas pain as well.

My first night I had a pretty high fever and a very high heart rate.  I had a lot of trouble emptying my bladder, as it turns out partially because I was too dehydrated to pee!  I received 6 liters of fluid during the night and early morning.  I think that my walking and using the incentive spirometer (breathing equipment to keep the lungs strong) is what allowed me to go home as soon as I did.

Having said all I did about having some problems, it's a lot like childbirth.  The problems have already faded and I'm mostly excited about the new possibilities in front of me.

Everyone has different experiences with hospital stays....I was barely there 24 hours.  I was taken into surgery around 11 am and I checked out of the hospital before noon the next day.
They had me up and walking as soon as I came out of the anasthesia.  I walked around the ward twice and went back to bed....another morphine drip and 3-4 hours sleep and I woke up feeling ready to walk some more.  I sat up on the edge of the bed and realized that I was going to be ok, I had to get help those first two times out of bed....dealing with catheter bag, IV pole and bp cuff.  Once I got all that sorted out, it was easy to get up and out by myself.
The day I left the hospital I was released for any activity unless it hurt, I was told to stop if it hurt. Of course swimming and  bathing were off limits, showers only.  I did not have a nurse come visit me after surgery, but I didn't need one.  My surgery center didn't offer me that service.  It might have been different if I had an open incision or complications.  I wasn't allowed to fly home until the Monday following my surgery, so I did stay in a hotel near the doctor for the 5 days following my surgery.
The day after I left the hospital I was out walking the Foster botanical garden in Honolulu.  I wasn't walking fast....but I walked all over that garden.  I took a water bottle with me everywhere!  I was constantly taking another sip.  Each day I felt a little stronger, I would go out in the morning, rest in the afternoon and then go out again in the evening.
You will figure out what works for you, it takes some time to figure it out.  Don't plan on doing any housework the first few days you're home, you probably won't feel like it.
Everyone has a different experience, mine went very smoothly, I returned to work in 10 days and I felt great.  I was really tired in the evenings, but I felt great.
Best of luck with your upcoming surgery, plan for every eventuality and expect the best outcome!  Stay positive, it helps quite a bit.

I was in for lap RNY for 2 nights. Two or three nights seems to be, more or less, average for this procedure.
