What is the ONE FOOD you seem to NEVER LEARN about eating?
Particularly RNY'ers -- since I have limited experience in any other surgery -- WHAT FOOD MAKES YOU ROT every time you eat it? (But, you press on and have it again and again?)
For me? Raw veggies. They are such a hit or miss -- and sometimes miss completely. Tonight I really pushed the limit and added a sprinkle of pumpkin seeds to a salad -- and here I am in the fibrous food intestinal death. (Your mileage may and should vary, I am very food sensitive.)
Will I learn? No. It's been 7.8 years and I am still dumb about food. But, I will keep trying, because I'm dumb and need my veggies. :)
I have to agree about the carbs. As a VSG-er, they don't particularly affect my well-being, just my weight! In the last week or so I've fallen face-first into popcorn and dry Cheerios (just plain Cheerios, not my fave, Honey Nut Cheerios, thankfully!), and in that time my weight has gone up three lbs. At 61, I can't blame it on TOM, just TMO (too much overeating). But three lbs is enough to shock me back to reallity.
And the funny thing is, my daily calories have been within range at around 1400-1500. I range from 1100-1700, and probably average about 1200-1300. These carbs really do a number on my craving and the weight. As of today, it's back to program.

I would have to say pb, i avoid it because it becomes a food i cant just say no to but eventually i have to go back and try and eat it in moderation which works short term, but eventually i end up avoiding it again til the next time..
but i cant keep it out of the house completly because its something my husband enjoys as a pb & j sandwhich..

Anything sweet or starchy. Reactive hypoglycemia does make you want to eat sweet things. Finding the balance to calm the craving and eat well is hard. I always seem to want something sweet, especially at night --- btw, I was not a sweet eater before RNY. The one thing I have learned not to indulge in is ice cream. It makes me so violently sick that I can't even look at it, never mind eat it. For many other refined carbs, I still occasionally push the limit.
