So i never took to regular protein drinks... my doctor had me doing the carnation instant sugar free ones with skim milk and pb to get something in cause the others made me sick for the longest time... So I did that for well over a year and this past summer stopped them all together cause the taste changed horrible!!! ewwww so I said i'll stop for a while.. well I tried them again and still a strange taste!!! ugh!!! So anyways now I wanna try the real protein drinks again in hopes that they don't make me gag..

Can anyone reccomend me some good chocolate ones that don't have a bad after taste but are affordable?  I'm on a strick budget right now.

Its time for me to really get back on track!

Thanks so much!!!

I know Vitalady offers sample sizes of different protein shakes.  They were really reasonably priced, from what i remember.   You could maybe pick up a few flavors you like and find a brand that works for you without having to drop a ton of dough for something that later turns out to make you want to toss your cookies...in a not good way.  No pun intended in that last sentence, it just kinda worked out that way LOL.

Someone posted a great thread with a ton of protein shake recipes.  Glance down towards the signature line   I think thats about all I can say.

Try the BSN Synthra 6 protein mix in chocolate milk shake....a huge container is about $26 or so on amazon.com with free shipping.  It is my favorite chocolate one.  Vitalady has samples of it I believe.  It has no protein after taste and it mixes well...each scoop is about 22 grams of protein and 200 cal.  I mix it with milk for more protein.

Good luck.

Sam's Club has Premier Protein Chocolate drinks for about 18.00 a 12 pack. These are ready to drink and easy to take anywhere. At 30 gr of protein and 1 or 2 sugar and 1 or 2 carbs, they are perfect and taste good too.

LIZ-I've tried probably 1,000 ifferent protein drinks over the years..okay, maybe not 1,000, but it seems it....

Chocolate seem sto always be kinda "iffy"-hard to get it not "chalky"..but maybe I say that because it's not MY fave flavor. I agree with JIM on the RTD Premier stuff from Costco. ask around-I bet you know someone with a Costco card, who could get them for you.

GNC has lots to choose from, and you can take them back, for a refund, if you hate them-but they are not cheap.

My personal fave chocolate is unjury from the online unjury site. Shipping is always reasonable, and you can get single serve or tubs

My all time fave-I have it every morning-is Click. I vary between Vanilla latte and Choc Mocha. I have it on auto delivery from Amazon

WalMart has the budget conscious Body Fortress tubs of powder. I don't care for it-but YOU might-and any protein is better than no protein at all. I have bought it, when necessary.

Hope you find a protein you can live it. You may find your tastes will continue to change, as time goes on. It's fun to try new things. Good luck!

Try protein coffee  and /or  chai tea  !   Its like a latte ...  and  I ( and many other  OHers) LOVE it  ( and I too HATED all protein shakes   before  surgery and after )

this is how U make it ..mix up  one scoop powder (  i use banana cream isopure from GNC )   with a bit of filtered water in a blender ... pour into a large mug,  and pour the ( almost boiling )  tea or coffee right on top.

MMM  GOOD  !!

hope U find the right one !  Its so important for  hair growth  and appetite suppression to get the right amount of protein !

I really liked the Atkins Shakes.    GNC Choc Carmel is my favorite as the Chocolate Unjuriy is awesome !!

Banana Cream from  Muscle milk is good too...:)    I make it with the Hood Calorie Countdown milk (less sugar than skim milk)
  • Pease check out Dr. Connie Stapleton's Website. A lot of good information on there for all WLS patients regardless of the surgery you chose.  Good luck to all and I'm here for you if you want to send me an email.  I'll answer it as soon as possible.

Isopure!  Clear RTD and both flavored and unflavored powders!

Premeire also makes RTD vanilla shakes which are available at Costco.  Kind of sweet, though.

I couldn't stand any of them either, especially Unjury and Body Fortress.  I found EAS Carb Control at Walmart - about $5.00 for 4 premade shakes.  They have 110 calories and 17 g protein.  I am down to one a day, so it is not horribly expensive.

I have only tried chocolate fudge and dark chocolate and found them to be tasty - no horrible protein aftertaste.

Next time I buy I am going to try strawberry and vanilla.
