A Stapling question ?

Most of the time, hospital will buy the cheapest, though some doctors insist on using their favorite type. You can ask your doctor what he uses if it makes you feel better. There is one person on I believe the ds board that had a stapler misfire but its the only person I have ever ever heard of that.

There is one surgeon in Mexico that has a reputation for using poor quality vet staples from China. Though I Haven't heard this problem in Fl.

Its a good question to ask your surgeon.

Hi: I always follow the money trail, and it seems that it always leads me to China. First we had the kids toys, paints, sheet rock for walls and alot of other items sold at the big box stores. From your lips to God's ears not in Florida, please. Happy 2012

hospitals generally understand that a lawsuit regarding faulty / subpar equipment is much more costly than shelling out for a better quality product in the first place.  can't speak for every hospital, so like i said, generally.  and don't worry, you or your insurance company will be paying for that stapler.  that's partly what the surgical fee covers - expected use of supplies during a procedure.  if you're concerned, ask your surgeon.

I had that very same question for my  surgeon. He told me that the sutures are titanium and will not be a problem. The skin will grow over it and they will stay and not disolve for the rest of my life. I asked what about setting off alerts in airports and he told me that it will not be a problem.

Hi: Thank God we won't be setting off alarms, that wouldn't be a good thing. You're right titanium staples are used, which stay in forever. Happy 2012

Hi: Lawsuits are fine, but you are the damaged party, no amount of money can fix that. I do hope hospitals do the right thing and not cut corners. It's true in everything we do in life, we place our lives in the hands of others, whether in surgery, on a plane or in a car and hopefully that person is responsible enough to take good care of us.
Happy 2012

i had my ribs cracked open to remove a tumor back in '04 and have titanium 'bread ties' holding my ribs together now lol.  it looks funny on xrays.  really does look like those metal ties that you use on plastic bags.

Hi: Can I say you're all laced-up to keep your ribs in place. Titanium is used for so many different things in surgery. Ruggie a OH member educated me on the use of Titanium staples for WLS, I didn't know what they were made of  (titanium) thanks Ruggie.
Next time I use ties, I'll remember you, hold it together now!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Have a blessed New Year 2012.
