Average can be beautiful.

Plus-sized bodies are beautiful.

In
PLUS Model Magazine, January 2012 edition, we learn some things.  Size 12 (THE HORROR!) can be DROP DEAD GORGEOUS -- even if Photoshopped.  I know, I know.  But, she's got wrinkles and folds!

Also --

- Twenty years ago the average fashion model weighed 8% less than the average woman. Today, she weighs 23% less.

- Ten years ago plus-size models averaged between size 12 and 18. Today the need for size diversity within the plus-size modeling industry continues to be questioned. The majority of plus-size models on agency boards are between a size 6 and 14, while the customers continue to express their dissatisfaction.

- Most runway models meet the Body Mass Index physical criteria for Anorexia.

- 50% of women wear a size 14 or larger, but most standard clothing outlets cater to sizes 14 or smaller.

(Please don't whine about how "Even at a size 12, I will never look like that, because I've lost _____ lbs and my body is a mess."  In this community, we are all floppy and flappy, but WOMEN?!?  YOU ARE A SIZE 12 NOW.  IS this not amazing?   As for this woman:  she's naked in a magazine because she's photoshopped and beautiful TO BEGIN WITH at her normal American size.  Not everybody is a model.)

I'm sure these things don't shock to those of us who've been much, much bigger than a size 14.  We KNOW how awful it is to shop for clothes, there just isn't any VARIETY once we're looking for "plus size" apparel.  (Do not evenMENTION plus-size girls clothes, I will cut kittens.)

How do we fix this?  PLUS Model Magazine suggests --

Tips on how we can help create change:

- Support the companies who market to you.
- Use social networking sites and email to let brands and designers know how you feel about clothing, options and the use of straight sized models (thin models) to market to you.
- Your dollars count! If you stop buying at “Store A" and let them know you will not be purchasing clothing until they market to you, this will raise concern.
- Use every avenue and opportunity you have available to you for your voice to be heard.
- Indie designers need our support.

Agreed.  We, as "plus-sized" women much push for options if we want them.

Beautiful!.........But I've always wondered what women ate who maintained a size 2, you can't be in a good mood every day barely eating, and I wonder if they are truly happy.

If I am not getting paid BIG BUCKS for starving myself why bother..lol

I was a size 2 and it wasn't hard to maintain because I was so miserable and unhappy I had no desire to eat.  Luckily the misery is gone as is the size 2, I am a solid 6 now and I can tell you I would be very unhappy being a size 12, I know it won't be popular but I find that womyn to be unattractive and too large for my liking, nothing I would want on my own body.  I work to maintain my size and I like the size I am, I don't judge other people, if that model loves her body great, I really don't care what size anyone is except myself.

Maybe you would be unhappy being a size 12, but having come from a size 24, I am perfectly happy being a size 10-12.  Real women have curves.

You find that woman unattractive and too large?  Really?

Yeah, you're right - it won't be popular.  I think that model looks lovely.

Being unhappy at a size 12 is why there are so many young girls starving themselves to achieve an unrealistic "ideal".

You have the right to your opinion.  I have the right to say that sucks. (unless the mods get me)

I like to think that I am more than just a dress size.  The woman in the add is beautiful because she is fearless and her confidence shines through.  The high heels don't hurt either, although they look like they hurt.

Being all wrapped up in a clothing size is not attractive.  It is a bore and shallow, and it takes away from ones attraction.

Women can be attractive at any size be it a 0 or a 24.  It's the attitude and the confidence that attracts.

I think she looks awesome...If I could get back there, I can only wish...and I would be happy.

I agree, beauty  can be found in the soul and attitude , not the size.... I think  society  teaches us  the falsehood of beauty in a "size".
