Paula.  Paula.  Paula.  Did you know that weight loss surgery, particularly the roux-en-y gastric bypass, is a widely-used treatment for Type II Diabetes?  /end ad

How did we not see this coming?

The Associated Press-

Celebrity chef and Food Network star Paula Deen is teaming with drug maker Novo Nordisk to launch a program that aims to help people live with Type 2 diabetes and promote a Novo diabetes drug.

Deen, a paid spokeswoman for Novo Nordisk, says she was diagnosed three years ago, but kept
quiet about her condition until she had advice to offer the public.

"I wanted to bring something to the table when I came forward," she said Tuesday during an
appearance on NBC's "Today" show. "I've always been one to think that I bring hope."

When asked if the high-fat, high-caloric recipes she champions can lead to diabetes, she hedged.

"That is part of the puzzle," she said, but mentioned other factors: genetics, lifestyle, stress and age.

"On my show I share with you all these yummy, fattening recipes, but I tell people, `in
moderation,'" she added. "I've always eaten in moderation."
PS. I mean no insensitivity with the use of the word "'betes -- which is now removed from my TITLE. Betes or other versions of the word are commonly used in internet pop-culture. See here for details > http://knowyourmeme.com/memes/diabeetus As someone who is often at the other end of the blood sugar spectrum, I am not throwing stones. I love Paula and GOOD For her for making diabetes work for HER. /end disclaimer

I think you are right.... there is so much money in diet industry and she will make sure she gets part of it. After all - she may be "different" but she is good business woman or have good team.

And then - she will have some sort of WLS. I bet on that.  And ... she will make money on that too.

One of her sons is already doing this. He has a show where he takes her recipes and makes them healthier.

I agree, just follow the money trail, she will still laugh all the way to the bank.
