Side Bar based on your comment..."She is 77 and thinks she knows everything, and hides candy in the house"

I heard this from a doctor...most of the elderly lose all thier taste buds but one ...that being the sweet tooth.  According to the Dr. that is the last to go.  That is why with any gathering you see most of the 70ish and older are eating alot of sugar.  My grandmother (MawMaw)  is one of them....she can take two bites of a sandwich or a spoon full of what ever is cooked and she is "STUFFED" . But I can cut up a cake or pie and she will scarf it up like their is no tomorrow and go back for seconds.  Really it is like dealing with a kid telling her that she has to eat this before having her sweets. We are not wit hher her 24-7 but check on her daily and make sure she is drinking ensure to get some nutrients in her as we all know that she eats crap during the day.  For the record my mawmaw is 83.

If your mother is 77...then yes she does know everything and there is nothing you can say about...I am sure if she is like my grandmother she will let you know that in a heartbeat....LOL!

Cripes... why does everything have to turn into a war between types of surgeries?

And just because "you" found something offensive does not mean you deserve an apology... nobody as the right to not be offended. Regardless to whether the person making the statement was trying to be offensive or not. If they want to apologize... great... but there's also always the chance you took something in a way it was not intended. That's not the fault of the other person.

As for Mrs Deen... she puts herself in the public eye, that in and of itself puts her up for more scrutiny. She has a huge following, she wields a certain sort of power. She has influence, anyone that doesn't think so ... why do companies bother getting celebrety endorsements? Because of their influence.

Power like that comes with responsibility.

Do I think she deserved to get diabetes? No. Do I think she brought it on herself? Can't say... don't know her medical history. Did her "lifestyle" play a factor... no way to know how much, but yeah, I'd bet it did... and more than a little at that.

I don't care that she waited three years to come out about this.

She has willfully put herself in a position of influence, made herself a role-model as it were. So yea, I do care, and I do believe it's irresponsible for her to (as it seems to be so far) downplay the role of dietary changes in helping control this disease and instead seems to be favoring the message of "do what you want, if you get sick there's a pill for that."

Exactly!!

When you are a celebrity, you put yourself out there for criticism.  She has been a shill for unhealthy cooking and eating for a long time.  I love unhealthy cooking too, but if I get fat or develop a disease that is exacerbated by unhealthy cooking, I am going to take my knocks for it.

I really think it is time for Paula to step down from her sugar laden pedestal and cease pushing greasy, sugary, refined carby food.  This nation is sick from our bad diet and a food industry that pushes, sugar, refined carbs and preservatives.

So, everyone in the public eye is a role model?  Then we, my sir, are all royally screwed.
Well I used to have a link here, but you know how that goes...
