Vegan protein shakes: unacceptably bad

All posts on OH can be read by the public. If you do a Google search they come up.

Therefore, no one is who in the closet about the WLS should post here in a way that will identify themselves. People who have posted using their real name or their real picture as their avatar who are in the closet about WLS *have* been outted to nosy family & friends this way.

Plus anyone can click the FB "share" link on any thread at any time.

Therefore, if you think this is a safe haven, you need to think again...

And, given that it's NOT a safe haven, how is OH posting tidbits on OH's FB page any more loasthesome or horrible than someone who may be a FB friend or a Friend of Friend sharing a thread here so that now it actually shows up in your newsfeed and maybe is seen by your FB friends? It's not like my FB friends who are not interested in WLS are "liking" the OH page. The people who are seeing stuff on that page are the exact same sorts of people who are seeing it over here on Obesity Help.

This argument comes up repeatedly and is completely irrelevant.

OH is a site that does not have the mechanisms to forward connecting information right into someone else's account.  Yes, if someone wants to google my prior profile - I didn't have my real name in my ID but it was buried, by demand, in my profile.  So I deleted it and am now Zelda.

On FB if their engine sees my name, it knows it's ME.  My profile is set so that only friends can view me.  I've tested friends FB pages and if I'm not yet friended and they are locked down that way, I can't see anything but their name and profile pic.  No intimate details.

Now, FB ID's me in the OH post and sends to my friend list a recommendation to join the FB page.  Now it has forward spoon fed my name and that page into my friends home feed.  I don't care because EVERYONE knows I had this done.

Now picture that the linked threat is say, one about "when can I have sex" or "I"ve had diarrhea and accidents for 2 weeks" - you want that link FED to your friends and family??

The OH site is something people will mostly only come here for information because they are interested in it. In that context, whatever future or current patients want to learn from me is fine with me in that CONTEXT.

But feeding my post into FB, causing FB to find me (and it DOES do that) is WAY different.  And finally - suppose OH in their infinite wisdom decides they want to put your vomit post up with mainstream media - you OK with that too?  Waking up to your link on MSNBC or Fox? Cause according to their TOS they own our links and can send them anywhere they want.

And their FB page is 100% open.

I've had to warn friends recently that their children's FB pages are being fed to me right now.  These are young kids and I have allowed my kids as young as 10 to be on FB (they are teens now) but their setting was "no one can view my page except friends".  When set this way - if I told my sister "oh XYZ is on facebook, search and friend him" she can't.  She can't even see he exists.  So FB is a completely different animal.

I suspect you'd find a level where sharing your links would no longer be acceptable to you.  I think the basic deal here is that OH should, as a consideration and polite offer, ASK the person if it is OK first.  That would solve A LOT.  And very simple to do.

On FB if their engine sees my name, it knows it's ME.

So don't tell OH your name. I sure didn't when I first registered here.

Not that I agree with you about how it works. How exactly is FB supposed to know that MacMadame is actully [My Real Name] if my real name appears no where in the text posted to FB? It can't.

But, even if it can, that's beside the point.

My point is that anyone who wants privacy about WLS shouldn't post posting on OH. It's not a secret website and people can and have found out about other people's WLS by poking around here.

Plus, I can post any thread to FB. So it doesn't matter if OH does it, if every Tom, Dick and Harry can do it. As soon as they added those "share" icons on threads, any limited privacy that you had (and you didn't have much) went up in smoke.

don't disagree with anything here.
i prefer a certain level of privacy & am knowledgeable in how to do it.    how OH wants to run their business, is well their business.

my only issue w/the FB debacle was they broke their own TOS - given that they have been presented to me daily...i expect them to adhere as well.

i could talk about fair moderation - but that would just be a silly & useless.

What's so weird is that I wrote this post back on the 26th of January. A week and a half ago. NOW they shove it over here and re-date it as having been posted TODAY?

There are few threads like that, including Sharyn's which is even older.
