What is an Addiction ?
I am a psychology major at the tail end of my bachelor's degree. Right now I am in an addictions class and I am thankful that I am in it right now. Eating was/is an addiction for me so it would be easy for me to pick something else up, just as I picked my smoking back up (which I am putting back down....I did this to get healthy, not die). But it is so easy to replace one addiction with another, so we need to stay on guard that we do not replace the eating addiction with something else. If anything, we need to get to the roots of why we have/had an eating addiction as part of getting healthier.

Hi: Susan
It's gratifying to hear you say “Which I am putting back down" the pack of smokes. As you said we have to be careful not to transfer or exchange one addition for another. The name OH stands for Obesity Help, that's why we / I are all here, because of our/my addition to food. Others may have medical issues that are beyond their control, but I also see them on this site.
I'm glad you understood what I posted and did not take offenses on the subject of additions.
I wish you the best in your studies and continued success on your journey.
Godspeed.

Well, addictions just don't go away....they have to be treated or another addiction takes the former addictions place. We have to be careful that our addiction to food does not turn into another addiction. Even though I am in my bachelor's program in psychology, I am going to seek treatment for why I became a food addict in the first place. I don't want to pick up other addictions, especially I don't want to pick back up food further down the road.

Hi: Susan
I feel that you are going to do really well in your quest to stop addiction transfers.
My oldest daughter is just finishing up her bachelor's program and will be graduating on May 5, 2012.
Keep your eyes on your goals.
