Regain????

Ok so here I go again needing help.
I'm starting to regain. I've gained 10 lbs. In 2 weeks I will be at the 3 yr mark from my RNY. My goal is to not let these 10 lbs become 11, 12, 13 or worse.
I'm suddenly eating by the clock and simply cause i want to. I dont know what brought about this change or how to fix it....I feel like I have this constant need for food and my stomach is overwhelmed, I can feel it but what do I do about it? Do I go back to liquids such as protein shakes for a week or so. I feel like this is nothing more than a habit, a bad one but a habit none the less. Any ideas on how to go about this?

I doubt going back to liquids would help.  You'll just be miserably hungry and probably won't stick to that for long.

Going back to eating mostly protein, then some veggies and fruit, and very little starchy carbs would probaby help more.  Make sure you're not drinking with meals or for at least 30 minutes after, but drink a LOT in between.

Sounds like a good starting point. Thanks Kelly. The problem is that I am not the least bit hungry when. I eat. I eat against the clock like ok it's 1pm, it's lunchtime so I HAVE to eat lunch so I do and then am pretty miserable for a few hours....

Are you hungry sometimes, or do you just never have an appetite?

I do have an appetite. Not a big one but I would probably eat every 6-8 hrs if I waited for hunger. I don't know why I'm eating against the clock but I know it has to stop cause I'm doing myself in. I didn't come this far to go back to where I was

Well, it sounds like you need to get back to basic.  Where you're eatting 6 small meals a day, by the clock if it works for you.  A small meal could be as simple as a protein bar, apple with a cheese stick, or a protein drinks that has 35 to 52 grams of protein which will keep you full.  You need to retrain yourself to eat healthy and that will get the weight off.

I gained from 2010 winter weight of 20 pounds and by the winter of 2011 I was up another 26 pounds weighting in at 224 pounds (46 over my weight maintain for 10 years).  I got back to basic by de-toxin my system with the 5-day pouch test 3X until I made it a full week.  I could put away regular coffee and a bags of jelly beans.  I took back control in December of last year and I am down 26 pounds and I have less than 20 pounds to go.  I created a spreadsheet to log and track my eatting every month and I work out 6 days a week between 35 to 55 minutes a day and I mix it up; Wii Active Tennis, Tae Bo PT24/7, Zumba Dance, and the Treadmill for a 3 miles walk.

I think your right. For some reason I no longer think a cup of yogurt and an orange is a meal. It looks like I've fallen back into the same old habits that got me to 343 lbs. Currently I'm at 200. I dont wannna go back to 343 so tomorrow imma try to get back to basics. Thanks for the info, I really appreciate your input.

Also I'm having problems with my tailbone (lots of pain) and anemia, terrible foot and leg cramps and I think I've made food my comfort once again. I gotta break loose though.

I know this is an old post but i can so relate to your story.  I had RNY in Oct. 2002.  After a rocky recovery, i got a very bad abdominal infection immediately post op....was very sick for many weeks after surgery so my post op was rough. But thank goodness i was able to rally and got my weight down to 130's but i was too thin so i was able to level out at about 150-160 lbs and felt great physically. I was able to maintain that weight varying from 150-180 depending on the season and other factors including having Rheumatoid Arthritis and dealing with flares having to use prednisone for months at a time off and on over the next 10 years.  Then in 11-2012 I was admitted to ICU with kidney and liver failure, due to being on the Enbrel and Methotrexate for so many years.......again i was able to rally but physically i've not been able to be as active and due to that, med changes and life modifications beyond my control...i've gained back 40-50 lbs and i'm miserable.  I am going to go back to basics again and use the 5 day pouch test (I hadn't thot of doing it more than 1 week but may consider it if i'm feeling better.).  I'm still not sure about the exercising due to physical limitations but i haven't given up i'm still working on a way to fit it in. Your post was encouraging and do hope your still doing as well.  Thanks for the advice.

I highly recommend the 5 day pouch test- I was in a similar situation & looked up the 5 DPT after seeing it referred to on OH. It worked wonders- got rid of my extra 5-8 lbs I kept putting back on and it helped me get back on track & see what I was doing "wrong" (not drinking enough water.... Eating bigger portions, picking at little things (like you, not eating out of "hunger"). I wrote a couple blogs about it. It worked awesome for me and I have had no problem keeping it off after 1 round of just 5 days. I know a lot of people do it several times, but for 10 lbs you should be able to do it in just 5 days if you stick to it strictly for the 5 day plan! Good luck to you & good job of getting on this while it is just 10 lbs!
