Help Needed! Contraindications to Intubation with RNY, Lapbander, etc
I've never heard this. Why would intubation with a particular airway damage something in RNY patients but not patients without RNY? What would it damage? My trachea is the same now as it was pre op. RNY does not do anything to the trachea. Can you explain further?

We can be intubated. The trachea is too far from the pouch or band for the process or tube itself to cause any damage. A misplaced tube is rare but could cause air to be introduced into the esophagus but a good EMS would recognize this before they put air in.
Perhaps you were thinking about placement of an NG tube? This is rarely if ever done at an accident scene.
And before someone jumps on me about "NO NG tubes for RNY", yes, an RNY can have an NG tube placed. Any decent nurse that goes to place one knows damn well that you meet resistance you stop threading the tube. And any decent nurse also knows that an NG tube will bend and curl up long before it goes through the pouch, sleeve or stomach wall. Any nurse that manages to puncture a pouch, sleeve or stomach should be fired, fined and have their license revolked. That kind of force is unnecessary and could be criminally negligent.

So I'm guessing the OP has decided this is not a concern after all?
