Sounds like you're really dehydrated.  Do the pinch test on the back of your hand;  if the fold of skin stays up in the pinched position, then you're dehydrated.  You cannot rehydrate orally at this stage;  get thee to an ER or talk to an Urgent Care outlet and get IV solutions.

Once you get over the initial horribles, it'll be much better, I promise.

Don't sweat the protein, but do get the water.

You might want to try almond milk instead of regular milk. There is a vanilla flavor that is fabulous.

I get the blue diamond brand because it's the cheapest. http://www.bluediamond.com/index.cfm?navId=52

Did you doctor give you a prescription for an anti nausea medicine?

I went to the ER at midnight last night.  The labs showed I was indeed dehydrated and they ran in a bag of saline.  They also gave me some sublingual Zofran (I wish by surgeon had done that).  I am to go see my surgeon this week for follow-up.  I also need to have some of my meds changed as my doc sent me home from the hospital on 3 extended release meds and they just aren't working.

I already feel a little better.  Hopefully I turned a corner.

Thanks all!

Jill

Stick to skim milk and only an ounce at a time. Many become lactore intolerant after surgery and have to build that back up again in order to tolerate milk and milk products again. Now in the early stages is the best way to do it. One ounce of milk once a day for a week then more often until milk isn't a problem. Stick to water if you've been sick. What do you mean by dump? Did you get diarrhea or something else? Throwing up this early should be checked out by your doc if you did that. At 8 days post op you're not going to get in all your protein anyway. It's something we work towards, you don't have to do it all at once. If you're on protein shakes use water to mix them. If you're doing protein with food go slowly and start over with liquids, soft, pureed, etc. Check with your doc, it will work out and you'll be fine. Many have trouble at first. You could have had a problem with the fat in the milk - we usually are allowed skim but you can try soy or almond varities if you need to.

 that husky is adorable.

I'm a bit confused by your post, however. you have Rny and don't know what dumping is?

The dumping I experiened was tremors, sweating, fast and hard heart beat, extreme nausea, and just a general feeling of "impending doom".  I bought some soy milk but still afraid to try it.  I saw the surgeon's PA today.  She put me on grape juice (2 ounces every 3 hours), water,  and applesauce.  If better in a couple of days I should resume trying clear protein drinks.

I'll get this down, hopefully.

I had horrible nausea for a few weeks post op.  I had to get IV fluids 3 times. It was really rough, and I felt horrible.  I too used Zofran, and took tiny sips. Very slowly, though the nausea subsided, thank God! I am almost 12 weeks out now, and never have any nausea.  Hang in there, it will get better.  Good Luck!
