Am I crazy?

I'm 3.5 yrs PO RNY,

I've been really struggling lately and I don't know if I'm just pushing my luck or I don't know my body well enough.

At least 3-4 x/week exactly 4 hours after I've eaten, It's as if I've just ate Thanksgiving dinner and attempted to eat the whole turkey and whatever I had, WILL NOT stay down, it's not exactly vomiting, more like regurgitating sometimes still whole pieces of food (sorry to be so gross) and if I don't get rid of it, I am MISERABLE.

Once it comes up I'm fine, but then I'm pissed because I might have fixed that meal or paid for that meal and it was pointless.

For example, last night, i had a grilled ckn brst, some steamed veggies (broc, carrots, snap peas) and mashed potatoes.

I ate just a small amt of each, started to feel full so I stopped, 4 hours later, boom, it's all up.

It more frequently happens with beef, but not always.

I'm doing my best here to try to eat better, what the hell am I supposed to eat if i can't tolerate some veggies and chicken????

For about a year after surgery, I LIVED on RTD shakes and pre-mixed foods, barely cooked, I can't afford to do that anymore.

Just wondering if anyone else has this problem and I don't get why it's happening 4 hours later?@?@?

Are you chewing really carefully? I ask b/c you mentioned whole pieces of food. What about Spices and seasonings? Do you keep a food journal or diary? Maybe a walk after you eat? Or sitting up until your food is digested? Is it every meal or just dinner? Have you spoken to a doc?

I know the feeling you describe, @ 7+ yrs PO I still have this happen sometimes - that heavy feeling in my chest and then a serious foamies vomiting attack, BUT, I only experience it 2 or 3 times a year, it is random as far as food choice but does seem to be from taking a few bites that were not chewed enough...I you are having this happen SO frequently its probably a more serious problem...Talk to your doc, maybe a stricture (who says they only happen to newbies) or ulcers around your stoma opening if affecting your ability to get the food down into your intestines and it just take a while for the body to realize that it cannot work thru it alone...

Chew every bite 25 times.  It is a good habit anyway.  And see if that solves your problem.  Wishing you much relief!!!

thanks for the tips, I probably am NOT chewing my food enough, I'm one of those scarf my food down ppl, I need to work on that

I'm going to go back to journaling because I'd like to touch base with a nutritionist,

I moved from out of state and not found a surgeon yet, but in the process of getting my records transferred to see this new surgeon.

I suspect it's the amount or kinds of foods I eat. I doubt it's a stricture, but who knows.

No pain really, other than a supreme fullness, like if I chugged 3-4 beers (bleh) I guess you call it the foamies, than

I avoid carbonation at all costs for this reason. Never drink soda.

Working on getting more water in, trying to make healthier choices.

Been REALLY thinking about getting one of those food savers, I waste SOO much food because even this far out, I still eat like a little kid as far as portions go.

I'm not complaining by an means I hope it stays like this, I have another 50lbs I'd like to lose!

I'm also working on getting an exercise plan going. I was doing well. I had some huge life changes. new job, move across the country, work more hours, more stress with learning new job. Moved away from all my family and support. So I'm trying to make some good changes!

Appreciate the help

Shelley

Hi Shelley,

I'm 6.5 years out and still have problems with solid meats. On thing that helps me is trying to always having some kind of sauce with the meat. You can experiment with different things like some low-sugar barbecue sauce or steak sauce or teriyaki or something else you like. This will help a bit with the dryness of meats. Also, I cut my meat into baby sized pieces before eating and chew well and then they go down and stay down better. If I eat regular sized bites it doesn't matter how much I chew, it can cause problems.

Good luck

That's good advice, I still try to push my luck sometimes!

I had a small egg beaters omelet with  2 slices of ham and cheese.

About an hour later had about 5 small pieces of cantaloupe.

I AM STUFFED and feel as tho I might burst.

I've always done really well with not eating and drinking, but I got in the habit of eating ice, because I would be so thirsty.

I don't eat near as much ice, as I used to, but I'm also less anemic so I think that makes a difference too.
