who certifies your nutritionist?

given some of the 'interesting' and highly conflicting advice I see here (and elsewhere on the net) coming from "nutritionists", I thought it might be interesting to see if anyone knows their nutritionist's certification body...

for example, the American Association of Nutritional Consultants holds themselves out to be a professional body of qualified nutritionists, but multiple people have succeeded in getting certifications and memberships for their pets (including UK physician Dr. Ben Goldacre whose dead cat was certified long after her demise).

on the other hand, the Academy for Nutrition and Dietetics requires extensive training to be a Registered Dietician or Dietary Technician (both are protected terms, while nutritionist is not)

the Dietician my clinic uses is a registered dietician with a PhD in the field who also teaches at the research university.

And unfortunately, even being a legit RD doesn't always help. 2 of the current 3 in my surgeon's office (he doesn't hire them - the hospital group does and all are RDs) counsel RNYers to eat whole grains first and foremost and to restrict protein shakes or supplements. They also recommend Flintstones.

As a result, I'm followed by someone NOT from his office, with his blessing.
