I failed the Bariactric Evaluation Test!! Help Me Please...
Long story short I went and meet with the Psychologist and when I was there i was weepy because my family Doc had took me off one of my meds later put me back on it and hadnt balanced out at the time of my evaluation. With that being said the psysic told me I was not emotionally stabilized for surgery and she would not clear me. Her and I did not on the phone get along to well after that, so now she will not clear me says I need to go have second opinon and get another evaluation ( O plus said I was moderatley, depressed as well)
I am on disability due to depression anyways, but I cant see where it has any concern as to how I will loose weight.
Can some one tell me how I can find clearance evaluation, I looked on the computer for like 5 hours, I am pretty sure my insurence is not going to pay for it, she was included in my Doctors office.
I dont have 500.00 dollars for the second evaluation, which is pretty much what I think I am looking at to get a second one done... Like do you really think I am going to fail a second one?lol)
Has anyone ever been in a situation needing a second opinion?
I cant believe they are making me find someone to do this, no referals from them, and no money to do it...
I am up for any advice as long as it will be healthy advice...
I have really been depressed to think I have done all of this and now I cant get clearance.
I have prayed about it and wondering if this is a sign, but hard for me to believe God would let this happen when he opened doors to let me have a second chance at life with this surgery.
Thankyou for any suggestions..... Kelly

Have you explained to the coordinators or the psych why you were so emotional? Why in the world would your PCP take you off a drug that stabalized you before a psych eval. that makes no sense. I do know that you have to be stablized for a period of time before any surgeon will OK surgery because you have to be able to deal with some very strong emotions after surgery. Your fat holds hormones and when these are released as you lose weight it can play real havoc on the best balanced people. It is truely for your own good that they are requiring this. I would wait until you have been extra stable for several months and then try this psych again since your insurance will pay for this one. You may find her easier to deal with when you aren't on an emptional roller coaster. All of us have run into road blocks of one kind or another and they are usually there for a reason. As a Christian you have to understand God has His own timing and it doesn't matter what we want, He will allow it when His time is right and He will know when we are ready. So keep the faith, keep praying for guidance and patience then turn it over to Him and He will never fail you!
First of all I would call the insurance and ask them for referrals for a WLS psych evaluation. I would also ask what they will cover. It doesn't hurt to ask, the worst thing they can tell you is they aren't going to cover it. Secondly, when I had my psych eval done last February, I paid out of pocket and it cost me $150.00. The reason I paid out of pocket instead of going to a covered psychologist is because the ones the insurance referred me to couldn't see me for 3to 6 weeks and then it took another 6 weeks for them to send the report in. Even though I'm on a fixed income, it was worth the cash to me to get it done quickly.
Please don't give up hope. If this is what you truly want to have done, then work towards your goal. Not everyone has a smooth approval process! Good luck to you.

Being an emotional rollercoaster over the years myself, I have to side with the psych and saw that not being emotionally ready for this surgery is a great reason to not pass you. Take this time to get back on medication that works, and maybe seek a counselor for some therapy and then try for another psych evaluation. Also, talk to your insurance company. It's possible that they will cover one evaluation a year, so then you'd have to wait until January of next year.
Being emotionally ready for this journey is huge. You will go through so much crap post-op that will have you crying for no reason one day and then laughing and enjoying life the next. Take this as a sign to get your depression/psych issues under control and take this time to feel better about you.
If you don't feel great pre-op, you won't feel great post-op. Out of everything weight loss surgery has taught me, this is the number one thing I wish I would have known beforehand.
Good luck to you.

Proud mama of Mischa and Gabriel, both born post-op.
Get your meds stabilized. Then ask the surgeon for names of other psychologists. He wants to do the surgery (that's how he makes a living) so it is in his best interest to get clearance for you as well.
You may be requested to have additonal psychological counseling. I was required to do 4 weekly group sessions on binge eating. I never considered myself a "binge eater" but I did have a tendance to eat a lot at night. I found the sessions very helpful. I decided then if I decided I needed more counseling on eating issues I would seek out this psychologist.
You need to be emotionally ready for the surgery for it to be sucessful. This process is very much an emotional one. You need to be prepared to handle the emotional side and to be able to handle the eating changes.

I know what my doctor told me about the mental health part of the evalutaion, he siad that I would be going through alot of changes, physically, hormonally and emotionally and they wanted to make sure I could handle it . so that is why it is important to weight loss surgery ...... in the paperwork i read before my evaluation it said that if i didnt pass they would offer you some counseling or some other hoops you have to jump through to have surgery , so that may also be an option having to go through a few months of therapy and then your back on track, If the second opinion is the only other route then go online and look up physycologst evaluation doctors for BS. I am a self pay and it cost me $230 dollars for mine.
My journey has taken over a year after finding out that my insurance wouldnt pay for my surgery, so keep your head up and jump through what ever the hoops they put in front of you .... the prize is in sight you just have to keep going for it !!!! Dont give up !!!
Good luck
