Urine is brown... does it mean no enough water?
For about 10 days now my urine color has changed to a light brown color.
What does this mean...? Not enough water
I went to the doctor and it is not a UTI or anything like that. I get in about 40oz or water a day, depending on my day but it is hard. I just can't get the entire 64oz in. It's the taste....
Can anyone help?
yes it means your not getting enough water, liquids.. increase it and it should get back to a light yellow. Also, check and make sure your vitamins arent doing it.. mine is a pretty neo yellow from mine, mixed with the toilet bowl cleaner and I have GREEN.. lol.... but try to get more liquids and see if that helps any... good luck
It does sound like you need more fluid. I can't stand plain water myself. I like Pineapple-orange Crystal light, diet Snapple peach Tea and light lemonade. It's really important for you to try getting in more water. I also find that when I'm really lacking in water for the day. I eat SF jello or eat several popsicles. The popsicles help quinch my thirst.
Another thing that might have changed your urine color is Vitamins. B-Complea, B-12 vitamins make my urine much darker yellow. Have you changed brands recently? Sometimes the dyes come out in the urine.
If you are really worried, please call your surgeon.

Gwen, I've noticed that early out post op, My urine was so dark and that did not sit well with me. I was only getting in about 24oz of fluids a day. I was told to up it to at least 64oz because dark urine meant that I wasn't getting in enough fluids, so I did. I noticed a huge difference. I know it's hard drinking that much in a day but you've got to, it's crucial to the body and organs. I hate water but I drink some but most of my fluids come from sugar free kool-aid and crystal light. You can do it. I got myself a 64oz jug and I fill it up with sugar free fluids every morning and I sip on it all day long. Sometimes it takes me ALL DAY to fini**** but I do. This way I know that I'm getting in at least 64oz. My urine stays light now. If I can do it anyone can. We owe it to our bodys to keep it functioning well. I'm only 7 weeks post op and I've got along way to go but my success depends on me. Good Luck!!!

HI,
I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. I HATE THE TASTE OF WATER. EARLY ON (I HAD SURGERY 9/02/03) MY URINE WAS DARK AND MY URIC ACID LEVELS WERE SKY HI. I HAVE FOUND THE FOLLOWING SOLUTION. COLD DRINKS FOR ME WON'T GO DOWN EASY. SO I FOUND HERBAL TEAS. THE ORANGE HERBAL TEA FROM LIPTON AS AN EXAMPLE, WITH SPLENDA IS AWESOME. I DRINK TONZ OF HERBAL TEAS ALL DAY LONG. I ALSO LOVE COFFEE SO I DRINK DECAF, WITH 2% MILK.
HOPE THIS HELPS.

While the most common cause of dark and strong urine is Dehydration,
there can be other causes. With this persisting for 10 days--I would
suggest you see your physician again. You need to make sure that
there is not a liver problem developing---which can darken the urine.
Better safe than sorry...but even if it is just dehydration, with it persisting for that period of time, it needs to be addressed--possibly
with IV Fluids.
I didnt want to be the only one to say this but I have to agree.....you need to see your Dr. Ten days is too long to be dehydrated. Think of it this way, would you let one of your kids (assuming you have them) or someone that you were taking care of, go for ten days being dehydrated?
WE so often do not take care of ourselves as well as we would take care of other people! Please at least call your Dr and tell them what is going on and leave it up to them whether or not they want to see you. Ten days of brownish urine is scary to me!
