The Sleeve is a great surgery---but before you give up on the DS, I suggest you consult with a surgeon who actually does the DS. After all, the Ford dealer isn't going to tell you to go down the street and buy a Lexus, now is he? (*grin*)

 Welcome!

I too am 28 years old, and very much new to all of this. In fact I am still waiting for a date to be set. I would strongly sugest you not get the band! I have a friend that had it and there were many complications with it through out her whole process. I also was looking into the RNY, however after talking to some of these amazing ladies on here have changed my mind to the Duodenal Switch. But you will, I am sure, pick the best one for you! I wish you the best of luck on your journey!
You are braver than you think, stronger than you believe, and more beautiful than you could ever imagine!

Thanks everyone for the replies.. here is to hoping a speedy and safe journey through the meetings, etc for weight loss surgery. I have about 4 appts this upcoming week for various things.. oct 3rd is my informational meeting, oct 5th the rn from my insurance co will call and get my medical history, oct 7th a bday party, oct 2nd i made an appt with my nutritionist.. she said if they go back 6 months i have lost maybe 16lbs if they indeed count it pre-surgery. She said i have many positive attributes that will be beneficial for me with this surgery only concern is emotional eating which i have been guilty of doing.. i am depressed and fat so i eat! I know probably sounds crazy right? Will a bariatric center turn me away from that or prolong this process while i seek therapy?

Between work and meetings it will be good to get used to all of this the meetings that is. I got my information packet in the mail and read EVERYTHING! Very helpful info.. they compared all procedures to complications, success rates, body loss averages, etc. I filled out all 15 pages of medical history and i called my primary care today for a referral gave them the fax number, etc.. called the nutritionist, the sleep center that i had my sleep studies done. Tomorrow i am going to the hospital to sign releases for my medical records.. surgeries, etc. I think i am getting the ball rolling.. excited but scary all at the same time! How is everyone else doing?

Hi...I am considered a newbie.I had my RNY along with my gallbladder removed on Aug 28th.I started my journey at the end of 2010, then life happened and I ran out of time to take for appointments.

The pointers I would give are:

Make sure you keep a folder or better yet 3-ring binder for all of your paperwork. Paperwork from blood work, to meeting information to nutritionist information.

I did a 3 ring binder and had tabs for vitamins/protein/recipes/comebacks for people with rude comments about my choice to do RNY/my appts/1-12 mth journey/my questions/concerns.

I would make sure that you have sugar free popsicles (they help me on my liquid intake) and sugar-free jello and pudding and soups.

I can tell you that I thought the liquid intake would be a breeze for me, cause I was always drinking water. But, I can't seem to get it all in. And I am trying, believe me!

I was doing great after surgery and then overdid; thinking I felt so great, I could do some housework. W-e-l-l.....DO NOT try this...I now can feel my deep sutures on my left side and am still working on being pain-free and it's my 5th week.

Other than that pain and not being comfortable in a bed and not being able to sleep....I am so thankful for the surgery....no HBP med, no anxiety/depression meds, no CPAP, no acid reflux meds....I am also down 27 lbs since surgery (52 lbs since my presurgery weight loss).

I would do the surgery again and NOT try to overdo! But since I cannot, I am just telling others to allow yourself time to heal along your journey.

Good luck to all of you just starting this journey.
