Why am i getting messages trying to scare me OUT of RNY?
Good luck with your surgery, rny works as long as you are willing to work it and obviously you know what you are facing going in so I predict a great outcome for you.. Those who fail think the surgery does all the work and you are along for the ride. Build healthy new relationships with food and it will benefit you and your kids. I for one think the DS surgery as great as it may be for the patient is not a good example of eating for your kids, and in reality if you lose weight and your kids are overweight you will have to live with the guilt of having surgery while they are forced to struggle. I get no one wants to discuss these things but they are part of he reality of being MO and breaking the
cycle permanently for the next generation.
Unfortunately, "surgery wars" have become all too common on this and other WLS support sites. Since I began using OH eight years ago, posts like yours have increased ten-fold. You understand that there are benefits, risks, and possible long-term side effects from RNY. Be confident in your decision and don't let others sway or scare you.
A lot has changed in bariatrics over the years and there is a much greater variety of surgeries being performed. Many well-meaning individuals praise and advocate for their particular procedure because they've experienced such a positive change in their life post-op. They want you to have that same experience, so it's difficult to be upset at people for doing it.
That said, if someone is telling you horror stories to scare you out of your decision, that's simply bullying and you should report it to the moderators. No one has the right to be verbally abusive and you should not have to tolerate it. Are there really horror stories out there? Sure. Are there just as many (more, I think!) incredible success stories? You bet. RNY changed my life for the better because it was the best procedure for my body and my situation at the time.
Only you know what it is like to be in your body and only you know how you think. I wish you all of the positive energy and self-confidence you need as you make your WLS journey. We are always here to support you, no matter how we've had our insides rearranged. ;-)

Did you miss this sentence in the original post?
I don't think it's fair having random people messaging me telling me all of the reasons NOT to get RNY because it didn't work for them and they got sick.
Doesn't sound like a "surgery war" to me---it sounds like people who had the same surgery the OP is considering telling her that the RNY was a bad choice for them.
Gee and those random posts were'nt from me, I have told everyone here i have regretted my wls. and still do..still have not had any complications...... its the mental anxiety that comes after wls. thats worse.. I believe you are not getting allllllllllllll the facts about p o life after wls.. go ahead and read the 'regrets' forum.. really??!!! I'm not random at all i tell it like it is.
I just personally hate people thinking to turn to surgeries to improve their lives..watch Dr. Oz , the Doctors see if that will help first..Peace\/ Wendy
