I had my DS Oct 25. So I am  12 days out. I can say it has been a strange and life changing experience. The first few days are the hardest. You do not think of food at all because you are dealing with the surgery. In the hospital I was brought sugar free jello and chicken broth. I wanted neither and forced a sip or two. Now that I am not in pain and moving around I have to make myself eat. I do not feel hungry and this has been the biggest surprise of my life. I am so astonished I have never experienced this in my life. I hope this continues and weight loss is easier. Good Luck to all who are considering this Life Change.

I have never once been hungry since RNY surgery over five years ago.  I eat what I want, don't exercise and don't feel guilty about eating junk food. I exercised and ate perfectly for the first three years.  I counted calories, protein grams, carbs, ate no sugar or flour.  Then I gradually started trying other foods.  Sometimes I got sick, but built up a tolerance and learned what I can and cannot eat.

I eat mostly fruit and vegetables now.  I eat a very small amount of meat.  My main source of protein is cheese.  I eat small amounts of almost anything.   Everyone is different but for me the lack of hunger was a real bonus.

I had RNY and now have reactive hypoglycemia.  Yes, I am constantly hungry and keep wanting to eat.  If I make an effort to go no more than 3 hours without eating and make sure I basically eat protein, it's not so bad.  However, there are times when I really crave sweets (it's cause by low blood sugar), and I never really wanted sweets before surgery.  So - based on most things you've read here, you'll see that it's sort of all over the board.  You could be starving (or think you are) or you could be totally not hungry. Hard to say how it will go for you.

Each experience is different...I feel hungry about every three-four hours but can only eat small amounts. I try and eat proteins first..usually don't crave carbs or sweets... I regret not getting the surgery sooner as it's been so wonderful having a second chance at doing things right and being healthy...good luck!

There are times that I don't even want to eat at all. And I could eat my share - I wasn't a glutton - but I could finish my plate and sometimes have seconds without a problem.
