Which surgery would best suit me?

I, too, had high cholesterol, was pre-diabetic and had sleep apnea, along with many other co-morbitities. I also had issues with gout, which required NSAIDS. NSAIDS is what you would need with your knees and ankle pain. It is strongly recommended that you not use NSAIDS with RNY surgery. For these, reasons, I think VSG sounds best suited for you.

I had VSG surgery on February 15th, 2012 and have lost 196 pounds so far. This tool has given my control over my addiction with food and had taught me moderation and that over-indulgence is not necessary.

Good luck to you, no matter your decision.

Another thing to consider is what your insurance will cover. If money is not an issue for you then your choices are more open. I know that many, including one of the previous posters, spent years fighting the insurance issues.

My insurance would only cover the band or RNY. I didn't like the band and all of the associating issues, so decided that I would have the RNY and work around the no NSAIDS issue should that come up.

Thanks to everyone who voiced their opinions, I personally feel that the ryn would best suit me, also, that is the procedure covered by my insurance company.

The DS would cure your high cholesterol, AND allow you to take NSAIDs for your knee and ankle pain. If you want the best surgery, you can file an appeal with your insurance company and force them to cover it.

And it's RNY, not ryn. (*grin*)

I just had RNY done...I also have POS.  My surgeon felt it would be the best for me...so when you find a surgeon you like talk over the options with them.  They can best tell you what would work the best with you.  I picked RNY because it helps stop a lot of the side effects that come along with the POS.

Based on your brief history, I think it's likely that you have metabolic syndrome "syndrome x"

Based on this, I think the DS will give you the best metabolic outcome, though you will have to decide whether the post op requirements for good health are something you can handle.
