Need a supportive PCP in the Roanoke VA area

Hello,

A close family member is considering weight loss surgery.  She visited her PCP today and was told it wasn't that she "couldn't" lose weight, she just "wouldn't."  He made references to being fileted like a fish, strangling her stomach, etc.  Her BMI is over 40 and this man has taken it upon himself to decide what is right for her life.  

She doesn't want a physician that refuses to respect her wishes.  

We are now trying to find a credible PCP in the Roanoke/Salem area that would be supportive of WLS.  Her insurance does require a PCP referral.

My PCP is Village Family in Moneta, VA.  That is fairly close...

And they totally support me and gave me the referral I also needed for the Bariatric Center in Roanoke.

I don't know their stance on WLS, but I know that Dr. Malinchak and her partner Dr. Sweeney are super nice people. I believe they are on Electric Road. They used to be with Carilion but split off to start their own private practice.

My brother sees Dr. Priddy in Salem by Walmart and he's suggested WLS before.

I'm sorry that your family member didn't get the support she deserves from her PCP. That sucks.

Thanks guys! I will pass this info on to her. I've been so upset over the lack of compassion and blatant disrespect shown to her.  She was so discouraged yesterday after hearing that she wouldn't be successful and would probably put the weight back on after 2 years.  I would like to go visit this man say "look at me.....I'm almost 5 years post op (LapBand), with a healthy BMI, no complications and I'm training for my first marathon....wanna go for a run?"  He might kick my butt but I guarantee I would earn some respect after 15 or 20 miles!
