Protein shake and bananna
I put as much as a half of a banana in my shakes so I could stomach them for a couple of months. My weight loss has been just fine. Honestly, I didn't get fat from fruits and veggies. However, now, I just don't have much room for them when you do protein first. Blueberries are a good option and I eat strawberries, too. I drank water right after my shakes. I would ck with your dr./nut to see what they recommend.
I wait 30 minutes after/before drinking my water and my protein shake. I consider the shake a meal and want to get as much nutrition from the shake as I can. I try to eat fruits that are low on the glycemic index. These include berries, apples, pears, oranges, cherries, peaches and plums. I usually do not add them to my protein shakes unless they are frozen. Then I use them to replace ice cubes. I prefer eating fruit in its "natural" form (not drinking it) because it fills me up and keeps me satisfied longer. I frequently throw in raw vegetables into my shakes. My favorites are kale, parsley, celery or spinach. I add a little more than a half a cup....no you can not taste it. I want the most bang for my buck. That being said I am almost 11 yrs out and I can tolerate all fruits and vegatables.
I continue to consider anything that was on the list for the liquid diet phase of my plan to still be a liquid and I drink water right after, including protein shakes. I don't put fruit in my shakes, but if I did I would still drink after because they are liquified. They are not staying in your pouch any longer than any other liquid just because they are nutrient dense.
Now, if I put chunks of fruit in something considered a liquid--like cutting up a banana into some yogurt--then I do wait the 30 minutes.
As always, when in doubt, ask your doc/dietician.
