I saw my surgeon, psychiatrist, nutritionist and all that jazz today to get me started on my way to WLS! I have a goal of losing 30 pounds. Seems VERY do-able to me. They have me on a 1200 calorie diet now, and HOLEY MOLEY! If this is all I am eating, these 30 pounds are going to shed so fast! It is crazy to me how little 1200 calories is! Anyone have any tips to get through this phase of the journey?

I'm currently in the supervised diet stage right now. I'm not sure that I have any "tips" but I know that what has worked the best for me is tracking EVERYTHING, and watching the amount of my calories that comes from carbs. I found that after 2 1/2 weeks of being diligent w/ clean eating... I became overall less hungry and had no more cravings (you know, the really physical kind where I just HAD to have something sweet). I cut out caffeine the very first day and last week completely cut out the soda.

Buying a food scale = super important. I was way off in estimating, yikes!

I"m excited for you! I hope things go well... keep us all updated!

The food scale is amazing!!! I completely agree tracking has been key to helping me stay on point as well. i'm following the 1200 calorie post op diet, which you know requires NO snacking. And i've noticed, but not snacking, I'm not eating a lot of calories. I completely cut out caffine and carbinated drinks the first day as well. It's been almost 6 days since I've started and i'm 11 pounds down! It's insane!

It helped me to eat small but often.

So, if I would have normally eaten yogurt and fruit for breakfast, I ate my yogurt and then waited 2 hours and ate my fruit.

I figured that after surgery I would lone eat 1/4 - 1/2 cup at a time, so I started out that way ...with baby spoons and tiny bites and not drinking while I ate .. It prepared me for post op life and helped me lose 18 pounds in5 weeks before surgery.

I'm a grazer, so it helped me to be very specific about snack and meal times.
Limiting carbs and drinking my 64oz water really helped with hunger.

Surgery (RNY) scheduled for Feb 26, 2013
