Has anyone had chronic skin infections pre~op?

If you have what did you do about it? I have my surgery in 1 week and developed a yeastt infection rash in the inner waist line that isn't in the surgery site but i did contact my surgeon because i am treating it with nystatin powder.. they told me all is okay and just to continue treating it. Soooo i just wanted to ask if anyone else had these problems pre~op or even had a skin infection on surgery day? I was told fungal is just outerlayer skin so not superficial so not a big deal but i am still not happy about it.

I think i wore my belt too tight one day which caused the irritation and then i was an antibiotics 2 weeks ago for cellulitis a boil that formed and was lanced. I am just so tired of dealing with chronic skin infections. I am doing a hibiclens scrub for 2 days prior to surgery though. Someone please tell me i am not alone... also any other tips for trying to clear this up in 7 days? I have white pimple like bumps and then one bigger one there is still  some redness but not horribly bad.

I am hoping this gets better post~op.

I used atheletes foot or jock itch creams on the rash, then tucked paper towels into the folds to absorb moisture.  It worked like a charm.

Ty Valerie. I have been using nystatin and lotrimin the redness and bumps have gotten better but still some redness and bumps there. My surgeon is having me do a hibiclens wash for 2 days prior to surgery so i am hoping that helps even more.

Just keep it going.  These things can take weeks to clear up completely.

I am pre-op so cannot really provide any advice.  I can, however, sympathize with you and let you know you are not alone.  I suffer from a variety of chronic skin infections--including boils like you describe.  To complicate matters, I am a type 2 diabetic.  That is one of my fears about surgery is that I will be in the midst of one of these skin infections on the day of surgery.  I am not sure about you, but my various rashes, boils and infections can appear basically overnight.

Yup same here.. being the reason i see a dermatologist. I would think bariatric surgeons are used to these kind of situations arrising i mean most obese people do have this problem at one time or another. I know my surgeon gives IV antibiotics before surgery and i am doing that hibiclens scrub. I am not diabetic but i still get lots of rashes.. i also have eczema, etc. I mean they can pop up anytime and i don't think this one is horribly bad and it's not even in the surgical area. I did call my PA though to let her know and was told to just continue to treat it and at this point that is all i can do. It's getting better and i am still good to go the 5th which is good.

I am hoping u don't have to go through this as well it's not fun.. i also heard they can be brought on by stress fungal ones anyway and i have been under a whole lot lately.. plus i was on antibiotics for my cellulitis 2 weeks ago which could have caused this secondary yeast rash i really had no control over it. I keep clean and dry. GL to you.

Pre-op I would get boils all the time, at one point it seemed like after one would clear up another would end up popping up, it was horrible. Since surgery though I have not had 1 *knock on wood*

Oh yikes!!! Did you end up having any active ones when u had your surgery? I am really hoping the weight loss takes care of them because it's not fun.. and it's not like i am not clean or anything.

No I didn't have any around the time of surgery, I think the last one I had was a few months before surgery.

Yeah I know how you feel, it was very embarrassing, it seems a lot of people think if you get them you don't have good hygiene.

Yup!! I honestly think this yeast infection Iwas caused from my antibiotic i took keflex about 2 weeks ago for 10 days. It stinks!! Had i known it would cause a yeast infection i would have been pro-active in making sure i didn't get one. Cannot wait until surgery day lol
