I just had my 8 month checkup today.  I was told to start taking 5000 IU/day above what is already included in my calcium supplement.

Surgery weight:  232 lbs. / Goal: 145 lbs. Height:  5'5"     Fat? Ain't nobody got time for that.

As others have said, you will need to determine for yourself what you need to take.

I take one 50,000 iu per week and hover around the 100 mark

I was taking one 50,000 per week and was at 132. My doctor backed me off to one every other week. We'll see in 6 weeks how that's affected my level.

Also depends on where you live and how much time you spend outside. I live in the NW and have a lap band but my D levels were still low. Now I am taking 5000 iu a day and will recheck in a few weeks to see if this ups my levels. So as you can see it varies by person, surgery type and geographic area.

I live in the desert Southwest --- and walk outdoors (without sunscreen) for 60 - 120 minutes a day ----- and still have to take 5,000 iu per day to maintain a D3 above 35

We are so different ----

Are you aware that we need our D level to be above 80?

Please note: I AM NOT A DOCTOR.  If you want medical advice, talk to your doctor.  Whatever I post, there is probably some surgeon or other health care provider somewhere that disagrees with me.  If you want to know what your surgeon thinks, then ask him or her.    Check out my blog.

If you'll enter your surgery date and type on your profile, it will show up when you post and that will help folks give you appropriate answers.

I looked at your profile and you mention having lots of joint pain. Low D can contribute to this. Have you had labs done in the last couple of weeks? If so, what was your D? If you haven't had 6-month labs yet, when will you? If you'll post your lab values here, folks will be glad to help you figure them out. Plan on keeping a spreadsheet to track your values, or AT LEAST a folder where you keep copies that you can refer back to. It's important to spot TRENDS.
