Hey all,

Have you guys cheated on your 2 week pre op? If so how far in... No I'm not asking to Cheat.. I started mine yesterday and have been a good boy.... Any advice to help not cheat?  Shakes and veggies will be very hard.. But I'm sure if I make it through a few more days I think I will be fine

I think your topic title is scaring people away. It makes it look like your asking for cheating advice as in, how can I cheat. I was drawn in to see who in their right mind would ask advice on how to cheat on this board and I was hoping to see some really flaming replies. You should wait for this post to sort of go away and then post again with a different title like "Help! I need advice on how to avoid cheating on my pre-op diet!!" Or you could go ahead and post that on your surgery's forum board rather than the main board. Just my 2 cents.

WLS is a journey. To be successful you must really be committed to changing your lifestyle, because you want to not only lose the weight, but keep it off. If you feel you want to "cheat", you should try to be honest with yourself to figure out why. No one is forcing you to get WLS, you are choosing it to make yourself healthy. You can do this- you can change your body, you can be successful. If you really feel you are not ready for the commitment to change your eating habits, you may want to reconsider if this is the right time for you to get surgery. Or you might want to try writing down what is going on when you feel the need to cheat. Are you stressed?Angry? Upset? Depressed? Scared? Remember, food won't "fix" these emotions, food really just numbs your feelings and gives you a temporary escape. But it is not enough, which is why many of us get so obese, which destroys our physical and mental health. The only type of "cheating" I do, is "safe" foods- like sugar free jello or popsicles or fresh berries with a little whipped cream ( I use a food scale to get 5 or 10 grams- which is amazingly little compared to my past portions!), and other similar choices. Past cheats like Dunkin donuts are out forever, for me.  Best of luck to you.

Okay, here's the truth---even the ASMBA says there's no virtue in a 2-week pre-op diet. What you DO need to be doing at this point is taking in all the protein you can, avoiding as many carbs as possible, and getting into the habit of taking your vitamins. So if you must cheat, eat lean meat or cheese.
