Lapband to Sleeve Revisions
Hello... has anyone out there had a band to sleeve revision? If so, do you notice more restriction with the sleeve? I'm pre-op doing a lot of research and wondering if it's worth it to have the bulk of my belly removed if both procedures are both restrictive. I do understand that the hunger hormone causing part of the stomach is removed with the sleeve so I also wanted to know if anyone that was revised noticed the difference? Any help or insight you can offer will be greatly appreciated.
Another major concern of mine are the vitamin requirements. I can't swallow pills and know that I probably won't take vits as directed (bad, I know). Has anyone had adverse nutrient reactions with the band and/or sleeve? What happened.
Thanks a lot!
For starters go to the sleeve forum and there is a huge amount of info there. I've read that the restriction is totally different and by the way much better than with the band. The band has been a huge disappointment for very many of us. There is a huge number of bandsters who have revised to the sleeve.
Vitamin requirements are much less than with a malabsorbtive surgery like RNY or DS. Usually a couple of chewable multi vit
amins do the trick. Of course you should get labs done periodically to check levels and then you may need some extra ones but it is much less than other surgeries. So check out the sleeve forum and they will take good care of you!
Hi Move2Loose2,
I have SO many concerns. I'm thinking that maybe I am over thinking this? The sleeve sounds really attractive with no malabsorbtion issues. I've read more bad things about the band that good. Then there is bypass which I know works but I also know that I would have to be very careful in many things going forward such as the medicines I take, being good with vitamins and the inability for my stomach to be scoped if need be. I don't know. I think that the sleeve sounds a little safer but, as you mentioned above, I want to be sure I get the restriction worth giving up having of my stomach. I do know that we can re-stretch regardless of which WLS we choose. I think there is greater room to stretch with the sleeve though. How long have you been going to the support groups? Please keep in touch and let me know what you decide.
